I was so delighted to finally have hollyhocks this year and would like to know how to collect the seeds.
Hollyhocks
Hi Mountaingirl
Hollyhocks form seed pods right after the flower fades and falls off. They form a round pod along the stalk about an half inch to an inch big, allow these to ripen till the seed pod opens. The seeds will be dark to black in color when ripe, cut stalk off to the ground as this will start new growth for next years plant.
I always scatter seeds each year around mother plant as some times they die over winter after a couple of years, the seedlings will be easy to move if you have too many in one area.
I hope this helps you, I would be interested in trading hollyhock seeds with you as I am looking for other colors.
Nigra is one and it is a dark maroon and a purple one as well.
Mike
