Help! Young tree, no buds

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7a)

Hi All,
In September shortly after I planted a young redbud tree(maybe 21/2 ft tall with many buds) I noticed that all the small buds were gone. I still do not see any buds. Do you think it will live? It doesn't seem dead. Its branches are not brittle.
Thanks,
Adele

Bud drop is sometimes a result of transplant shock. It may not bloom this year, but it will most likely leaf out soon..

Was it planted (bought at a store, in a container) or transplanted (dug up from somewhere else and replanted)?
I once dug up a Redbud and replanted it and was rougher digging it up than I should've been most likely, anyway it died. I'm pretty sure I tore up too many roots in my case.
They are nice trees, in a short period of time. The "stick" Redbud that I planted from Arbor Day in 02' is now about 12 feet tall and this will be the third year of lavender flowers, it shot up like a rocket. It was probably 1 year old when I got it.

Hi shortleaf,
I bought it from a store in a container. I think they're nice trees, too. It makes me very happy to know that my little baby tree will be 12 feet tall in 5 years! Oh, being a parent can be so worrisome sometimes.

I'd just be patient for a couple more weeks.
I think Redbud blooms the lavender flowers the first week of April or so (here anyway), and leaves after that.

My baby redbud looked like a dead stick all winter and is just starting to show buds now, and since you're a zone or two colder than me I would guess yours might be a few weeks behind. Mine may be a different species than yours though.

Sometimes, perhaps even most times, if the top dies new growth will come from the bottom. Give it time.

my volunteer redbuds never even had any flower buds till they were well over 2 1/2 feet tall and had several branches.
