Corning, NY(Zone 5a)

Wish I could go:( Anyone that may be going would you care to pick me up a few? :)Anita

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

Anita, local 3-4 DGers went to his sale a couple of years ago, I was 10 minutes late and missed out completely. The DGers that arrived early said there was a big line waiting for him to open the sale. He is very popular and very involved with our local DL society, so I have the sneaky suspicion that insiders may get a heads up. Can't say for sure. He has wonderful stuff but I wouldn't go again just because too far and odds of getting the choice stuff very slim (at least for me). Best part of it was meeting the DGers in person.

We even came up with a shopping list for some DGers, only to disappoint most everybody because of what I explained above.

Corning, NY(Zone 5a)

Thanks Nery,
I know if I lived in TX I would sleep at his door to be the first one in line:)Anita

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

that's about what it takes, lol

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Me and Marilyn went last year--no lines by the time I made it--lol

I had no problems getting what I went after. =)

Corning, NY(Zone 5a)

dmj,
Are you going this year?

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I can go--I think Marilyn said she wanted to go again this year.

Corning, NY(Zone 5a)

You are awesome, How many of each do you think he has? I see a few are limited, but that really does not tell me if he has 5 or 50. How many would you like to honestly pick up & ship to me? (I don't want to go overboard on you) if you can get them. I am so excited:)Anita

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I ship all the time Anita--I'm a commercial grower (just not daylillies). Just let me know what you want me to try to get and how many of each variety--I'll do my best. Shipping is no big deal for me--I send everything priority USPS.

Corning, NY(Zone 5a)

Debbie,
Thank you so much. Can you afford to cover some & I can Paypal you after we know which ones you could get me? I don't want a ton of them, say like 10-12 give or take a few:) Daylilies are my passion, What do you grow & ship?
Even if I only end up with a few of the ones I want the prices are well worth it, :)Anita

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Oh yeah, I can cover it, no problem. Go to my member page; my website is there--I'm still working on the site for this year.

Corning, NY(Zone 5a)

I had to look at your site, Oh I wish more things could grow from your zone here, but I did see a few things I will need. I so hope everything works out for the daylilies, I will do a list in the next few weeks, Thank you again so much.:)Anita

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

We have a bit of time there--I will say the plants I got from him all did really well for me--even a couple that just made it into the ground last week (almost a year later). I will say I was impressed with him as a grower. No disease or pest problems with any of them. Anything I manage to get from him you want is actually a steal at $4.00--no retail nursery is gonna match it. I can't speak for internet daylily companies, no exp there to compare it to.

Just make me a list of what you want--the max and min of each variety you would want--and a total overall number. If he's out of something, you might want more of something else, etc. Just give me good feel for your latittude and scope. Take your time on it--dmail me when you are ready or at least a week before the sale--That way I'll have cash for him (I notice that does do a lot of talking with growers--sure works for me). ;)
Debbie

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Hey, Nery, last year he had a LOT more stuff and the sale wasn't over in 90 seconds like 2 years ago. Actually, we got to look at everything fairly leisurely and he had plants left over when we left.

Nery wasn't exaggerating though... When I met her there two years ago, it really was all over in 90 seconds, and we had to come back and apologize to all the people who's lists we couldn't fill.

Hey, Debbie, I didn't know you were a commercial grower.. How neat! :-) Do you want to get lost in the Heights again afterwards?

Corning, NY(Zone 5a)

Lost? Wait no, Please come back & let me know if I got lucky enogh to get any first, on May 12th :) I hope you both have a wonderful day & Bill has lots left when you get to him ,Thanks so much, :)Anita

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Sorry Anita--it's kind of an inside joke. I got lost and Marilyn had to wait for me. We now know where it is!

I'm always up for a trip to Buchanon's afterwards. I'd say it was a rather "leisurely" pace last year since I was, what--about an hour late? Maybe the quick sell outs in the past have made where fewer folks attend now--that's OK with me! More for us and Anita! Mine really have done well that I got last year. That's the only place I'll buy daylillies from anymore--he has spoiled me.

Yes Marilyn--but it's bulbs, not daylillies. One must have something to look at when the bulbs aren't blooming!
Debbie

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

Debbie and Marilyn could you keep an eye peeled for some Pandoras box DL? Mine didn't come back this spring. Other than that anything with really vivid colors. Whatever $10 to $15 will buy and whatever I can bring you from my yard.:)

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

He doesn't box his daylilly's--they are in gallon pots.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I don't see Pandora's Box on the garage sale list, but I'll keep an eye out for it, Mary Lee. Did you see any other ones you would like? http://www.ofts.com/bill/yardsale.html

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

Marilyn, anything with dark vivid colors like Rue Madelaine, Midnight Raider, Nordic Night or Mama's Cherry Pie. Whatever $15 will buy. When is the sale and what is your address so I can send you a check? Thanks in advance.:)

Corning, NY(Zone 5a)

Had a chance to check them out & do my list, I would love any of these you guys could get me:
2- Alexa Kathryn
2-Victorian Lace
1-Autumn Jewels
1-Edge Of Heaven
2-Eye On America
1-Strawberry Fields Forever
2-Mama's Cherry Pie
1-Something Wonderful
1-Waiting For Peace
5-6 of any of his $4.00 seedling's

The ones I want 2 of are to share with my Mom, but if I can only get 1 each that would be fine with me, Can't wait till May,Thanks so much :)Anita

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

OK--do you want me or Marilyn to handle this?

Corning, NY(Zone 5a)

Debbie,
Either way would be fine with me, I did not ask her, as I thought you 2 would be going together? which ever way is easier for you 2, just let me know, Thanks so much.:)Anita

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I only want to know because how much I buy greatly affects the amount of cash I take with me. I got the impression he preferred cash. =)

Marilyn--let me know if you want to handle Anita's too or you want me too. Either way is fine with me.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

How 'bout if you take care of Anita and I'll take care of Mary Lee? :-) And/or we can make a big list of both of their wishlists and divide it between us at the sale. I'm pretty sure he only takes cash.

Mary Lee, I'll dmail you with my address.

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

Marilyn, would you believe that's my wedding anniversary?

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Awww.. :-) I might have to throw an extra one in to help you celebrate.

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks Marilyn.

Oh I just reallized something! Duh! The DL sale is after the RU. How are you going to get these to me? I was thinking it would be so convenient because you wouldn't have to ship them. How much is shipping?

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Sounds like a plan to me Marilyn! We can both "fight" for what we both need as a pair and I'll pay and pack and ship Anita's, you can handle payment and shipment for Mary Lee.

Anita--I would just as soon wait and see what we can get and what shipping will be prior to you paying me. That way you only have to pay once. I can't even guess what shipping on that many daylillies would be--I deal with small bulbs mainly. I will send them priority mail as we will want to get them out of Houston quickly--it will be getting pretty hot down here by then.
=) Debbie

Mary Lee--3 would easily fit into one $8.10 flat rate I know. It will be $9.15 by then I think. Not sure about 5.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I'll just ship them to you, Mary Lee. I sent some to Mitch last year without any trouble. You don't have that many, so won't cost more to ship than a flat rate box ($8.10) and may cost less depending on how heavy the box turns out to be.

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

How did you ship those Marylyn? Out of the gallon pots, right? I was just going to ship them like I ship bulbs that are "in the green" and actively growing.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I took them out of the pots, wrapped the bulbs (umm.. tubers? What do daylilies have, officially??) in damp paper towels and then in plastic bags, trimmed the leaves so they fit in the box, popped them in with packing peanuts, and mailed them off. Mitch said they arrived in great shape. :-)

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

That's pretty much how I ship--with a few minor variations. :0

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

I just started into daylilies and this would be a great way to get some without a lot of expense. Don't think I could go to the sale though, that's about the time I'll be heading home to help mom and dad with the move. If you guys pick up any extras I'd be happy to pay you for them. Not a big deal which ones they are.

:) Kim

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Hi, Kim! Do you have any preferred colors or anything?

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Hmmm....I like peach/orange, lavender/purple, pale yellow and red the most. I like rebloomers best so I get to enjoy them longer. Right now I have 4 established ones on the side of the house, 1 that I just planted, and 3 I ordered that aren't here yet. I have a new bed I just put in this year in the backyard and I'd like to add daylilies to it. It's a good sized bed. I know I'm probably getting into another addiction...so I'm trying to get in slowly...lol.

:) Kim

Corning, NY(Zone 5a)

Marylyn,
Tubers is correct, if it is that hot in may they would be fine sent minus the plastic bag, most places just send them free of dirt & nothing on the tubers/roots. I have had them shipped both ways & they bounce back no matter the method used.

Silver,
I have Pandora's Box, things are just starting to wake up around here, I'm sure I could send you some if you would like?

Debbie,
I will pay whatever the shipping is, I wish I could afford more Daylilies, as he has some BIG savings on many, but I have to pay the bills too unfortunately.

Kim,
Can we say addiction? Oh wait till you see yours bloom, then you see all the ones you don't have & want them all:) If you don't care about the names I am going to have some real pretty ones I have to move this spring, we are putting an addition on our house & I have to move 2 bed's, I have other things in the beds that will have to be moved as well, I am so not looking forward to digging up everything, but I would rather dig move & share than see them die.

This is only one part of this bed, the bed is 200' X 95' I can't get enough Daylilies.

That would be wonderful! Names aren't too important to me. I know they help when trading, but perhaps they can be IDed when they bloom. Either way I get to enjoy them, and that's why I am planting them! I am also looking for things for my mom, my parents are moving from Ohio to Texas in a month or so and I am collecting things to give to her to start gardening down here.

:) Kim

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

Nyvoice, thanks for the offer of Pandoras box. That would be really nice of you. What can I send you in return? If you check my journal you'll see a list of most of my plants. Idid lose Etoile d'Holland and Felicia, but I think the other roses are there.

BTW in your post above, you said you were "putting an addition on our house". When I first read that I thought it said "we are putting an addiction on our house". I thought hmmmm that's what being addicted to DL does to you?lol

Corning, NY(Zone 5a)

Will check Silver, I have a good month till I can dig in the dirt here, it was 23 last night:)Anita
