This is really puzzling me

Mesilla Park, NM

Have any of you MG growers grown this one? It was labeled ROBE

it seems to have very large leaves, very short plant about 3 inches high so far, the leaves are really close to each other, almost a poinsetta look about it. Had only 2 seeds, don't remember who I got them from a couple of years ago. Thanks for any input you can give.

it is not growing up, but sideways.. and it is not vining.

here's the leaf, it has huge leaves. It could be Robe, just wanted to make sure it is labeled correctly.

Gourd - The Robe that was going around a few years ago was a dwarf sunsmile 'bush' type of plant with a lavender flower...and it looks like you have something like the dwarf 'bush' type which is very different from the Royal Robe...

Ron,

Oh, okay, thank you. I haven't seen the dwarf sunsmile bush.. going to check if there any photos around that were posted. So, what should this one be called?

Royal Robe is also going by another name isn't it? Now I have to recheck some of the seeds sown in Jan.

Hi Paul,
yes it is varegiated. Looks really dark green and lush..

Here's a picture of mine from 2 years ago. It stayed in a pot all summer never getting tall. Nice though, lots of flowers

Here is a link to information on the Sunsmile Pink I grew last year. They began blooming before any elongation of stems. As the plants matured, they had "stems" that were about 3-4 ft long. I grew mine in the ground.

Hi Arlan,
I like those, you know, I may just put them in these raised beds, in the corner of one. To see how they do in full sun and get some color out in the veggie garden.. we just finished these and will fill them up in a week or two..or three.. or it could take the rest of my life they are so deep.

Were your's in part shade, don't remember if i read that in your Journal or not. will go back to check. We will probably have some type of dappled shade once everything starts to grow.

Yes they were in partial shade from an oak tree. It probably delayed sunlight on them for a few hours each morning. I'm sure they would do well in full sun as well - like the rest of the JMGs.

I'm thinking of using them in the flower beds this year as well. They are very well behaved.
