MG so far ....

Big Lots had some of those tall green garden stakes so I bought 3 packages and started extricating my MG from whatever they were attaching themselves too. I'll finish the job today, but here is what I have so far.

I've used them but find they're not long enough for some mg's unless you keep winding them up and down. I like the round tiered tomatoe cages. You can wind quite a bit before they overlap.

I use those bamboo stakes also, they do get full and I have to RE-wind them..lol. You are way ahead of me. Got some stakes ready but can't put them out yet and I'm dying to.

Well, when mine get to the top, I'll just weave them back down like i did with the spiral.

Hi X,
I was wondering at what point you provided your MG's with the sticks to climb, like, how tall were they, how many leaves? My Flying Saucers are just getting their second true leaves and they already look kind of vine-like, if that makes sense, and I'm thinking they might like something to climb. (Transplanted a bunch yesterday into their own 16 oz cups; cannot believe the transformation overnight - grew like they're on steroids. LOL).

Hi,

I've just started using the stick .. before it was a free for all in the greenhouse, and nothing was safe. Now I put the stick in when they get to their final pot.

Joanne, when they get a few inches taller, they will start waving in the breeze
and you will need to give them a stick or something to keep them from
inter-twining. That's no fun. I break my bamboo sticks to better fit the small glory's
size until they get bigger and I have to give them a taller stick.

Just got back from the greenhouse and took another picture of the first one. It's amazing how much these guys have grown in just a week.

Patootie, when I first started using the sticks last week, I noticed I was tearing roots as I pushed them in on the older plants. That's why I decided to add the stick during transplant to the final pot.

X, I used to have that problem but since I switched to the peat pots
last yr, I just inserted the bamboo stick between the peat pot and the edge
of the plastic pot. At that point, the roots are still inside the peat pot so no
damage done.
Your new glory's looking great.

Thanks X & Patootie.
