Does the grated Irish Spring soap work?
don't know which thread I posted my early tulips, but I'll put them here too.

I have no idea what kind of tulips they are, but I've had that particular bunch for quite awhile. Most of the tulips only last a couple of years for me.

Here's a Scilla. I have a few that are lighter and some that seem to have a bit of a stripe. But I didn't buy anything different. I think the squirrels are responsible for the first ones I had - having transplanted them from a neighbouring yard. I like them because they still bloom after the crocuses are gone (which mine are now).

Yes, I've found the grated soap works very well. It took me ages before I found something that actualy worked. It works WAY better then bloodmeal, which is what I used before.

I like your Scillia too, is that the one thats also called Glory of the Snow?

Sorry Steve, but my Scilla, Crocuses and most of my Tulips are just Scilla, Crocuses and Tulips. Some of them probably have names, but I haven't kept track.

Ginny, I procrastinate in taking pics of my garden in spring because I don't think there's much worth showing. A couple more years of planting bulbs & perennials should take care of that.
Great pics guys! I really like the colour of your fence Steven; the daffs really show up well against it.

Somebody's gotta help me here. This plant emerged and I'm not entirely sure what it is. It sorta reminds me of foliage from Bleeding Hearts but I only have one plant of Dicentra (white blooms) and it is another part of the garden. The bed where this is, was totally reworked last year with daylilies, asiatic lilies, hostas and a few annuals. In this spot should be an asiatic lily. I'm wondering if it hitched a ride somehow and I totally didn't notice. Any other votes for Bleeding Heart foliage??

oh, here's the pic:

Bleeding heart has my vote. Dutchman's breeches comes to mind too. But I think they're pretty much the same, ain't they?

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

I agree. I dunno any varieties, but the leaves sure look a lot like mine.

Orangeville, ON(Zone 4b)

Thanks LeeAnne & Ann. I sure like surprises. In the PF, a member mentions that Alba comes up all green:
http://davesgarden.com/pf/showimage/146221/

The one in the pic I posted looks to have some reddish colouring, so I might have a pink one here. Funny though, no sign of my Bleeding Heart Alba yet, hmmm.

North Augusta, ON

If you're like me, you moved it late last fall and don't remember......

Orangeville, ON(Zone 4b)

Lol, my memory sure does fail me when it comes to my plants. I have to keep good lists or else I can't keep track of what's what and who is planted where. Maybe I moved it while I was sleep walking??? hehehe

White Lake, ON(Zone 4b)

I'll third that vote for bleeding heart. Not sure of the variety either, though. My Alba is coming up all green, but it's not up as far as yours are. One thing I can say for sure is - it's not Gold Heart, because the shoots are bright red on that one.

Definitely a bleeding heart - looks just like mine which are the standard pink flowered ones.

Well pink is good! I'll take it! Things are really starting to take off in the garden and I was happy to see my little Pulmonaria officinalis yesterday putting out a few blooms. I planted this one last year and it was so puny then.

...and any moment now, Brunner Jack Frost is going to bloom too!

That's what that thing is!!!! Pulmonaria...Have had one for years, just love them.

For some reason the crocus in the lawn aren't blooming this year, oodles of leaves but not a flower to be found.

Hyacinths are blooming, and some white flower I have no idea what it is though...muscary(?) comes to mind, but then my mind is often wrong.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Oooo. Love that Brunnera. I have one on order from somewhere...LOL.

Joanne

Orangeville, ON(Zone 4b)

Yup, Pulmonaria or Lungwort. They are sweet looking but I can't say that mine looked too great near September .....actually it looked so scraggly, I thought it was dead. I wouldn't mind a few more just for the spring colours though.

I'm glad to hear you got Brunnera coming Joanne. It is a great plant. I ended up buying two last year and divided one in half so now there are 3. I can tell you that they don't like severe heat waves......they will droop and look half dead. As cooler weather comes, they perk back up. Here is a pic of one of my Brunneras in September last year:

Is that ever pretty, hmmmm....gonna have to get me one of those, well, 3 actually cause if I get one, sure as shootin, Mom and Hubby will want one too......

White Lake, ON(Zone 4b)

Erynne,
Wow, that September pic of Jack Frost is one of the nicest I've seen! Gorgeous. Even your first pic, what struck me is the hairy edges. Who knew!

Three,
Is it Muscari- Grape Hyacinth that you are thinking of? It's blooming right now for me, too.

Thumbnail by sanannie
North Augusta, ON

nope. that ain't it....it's got little white flowers with a tiny blue stripe down the centre of each petal.....I tried to get a pic, but it's blurry....

Thumbnail by threegardeners
White Lake, ON(Zone 4b)

Hmm, not sure about that one, Three, I don't grow it. All that's blooming here so far are Glory of the Snow, Scilla, a Tulipa kaufmanniana with red outer petals, umm, a few hangers-on crocus, and the Pulmonaria are just starting. Won't be long though. Spring is definitely here. Yay!

Sandy

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Three - I think that's a type of Scilla - the habit of the plant looks right and my scillas vary in colour. Some have a bit of a stripe.

There's a pic here:
http://plants.usda.gov/java/profile?symbol=SCSI2 (and it uses the name Siberian Squill too, LOL)
And here: http://www.about-garden.com/e/en/733-siberian-squill-scilla-siberica/

North Augusta, ON

Nope...that ain't it either. I gotta quit impulse buying bulbs every year...I can never remember what they are!!!!

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

I still think it's some kind of Scilla, but probably not the types I found pics of. Looking at yours, the stalk on the far right shows the way the flowers are attached to the stalk and it's really the same as the scilla.

North Augusta, ON

It could possibly be....I was just going by the amount of flowers on the stalk, maybe some scilla's are more floriferous?

White Lake, ON(Zone 4b)

Googled 'bulbs blue stripe' and I think I found it.

http://www.paghat.com/puschkinea.html

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Could well be, Sandy. Regarding floriferous scilla's, I found some pics when I was looking that looked more like a hyacinth because their flowers were so numerous.

North Augusta, ON

That sure looks like my flower....

White Lake, ON(Zone 4b)

Well, if I'm right I'll must give Ann at least ten points because of the scilla comparison. Article says: Puschkinia scilloides - "scilloides means resembles scilla" :-)

Sandy

(Zone 6a)

Very nice photo's Erynne and your Brunnera is amazing! I've always shyed away from buying them cause they can be pretty pricey.......but that won't happen again :)
I'll also put in another vote that your plant is a pink bleeding heart. I've got the white one and it's coming up all green.

Steven
