Abutilon megapotamicum (Flowering Maple) seed germination

Hillside, IL(Zone 5a)

Hi All,
I bought some Abutilon megapotamicum (Flowering Maple) seeds and did the growers instructions, i.e. place seeds on top of good potting mix (miracle grow potting mix),cover tray with plastic, water in well, keep at 68 to 72 degrees until germination. says germination will take about 6 to 7 days. I am on my 23 rd day and still nothing.
Did I do this right?
Should I have nicked, soaked the seeds prior to planting?
The seeds came from a reputable grower with outstanding ratings and are fresh so I don't think it's the seeds, I think it's me
Any help will be appreciated

Hi Marty. I started my flowering maple seeds the same way. We must have brought them from the same company. I had 3 seeds out 12 germinate the first time. 1 did not make it because the seed shell refused to come off and I of course had to help. Needless to say I decapitated the poor seedling. ...I have since started 12 more seeds, but this time, i gently rub the seed between 2 sheets of sandpaper, then I soaked them. I had 100% germination with this method and it only took a couple of days.

Good luck.
