Ms. O'Hara was one of the first MGs I every grew, really liked it but mine had the pale eye and was not solid red.

Phicks we are not saying that SOH isn't an American heirloom Morning Glory but simply pointing out which packs sold in Japan will produce the solid red ones. Like Joseph stated that he grow some with the pale eye and those type are very common in USA as Ron pointed out in an earlier thread.

I also have the Sakata, Takii, and a few others that we'll grow and compare. This is a group project that we'll enjoy watching.

You are going to have a busy season! Did you prepare the vacant lot for plants?! - Arlan

I think the SOH is beautiful. It was my first morning glory and it was completely covered with blooms every morning. Then one year they did not reseed very well. I found one in the ditch in front of the house and before I could dig it up to save it the city came through to mow the ditch and then I couldn`t find it.

I`m trying out the Old Glory mixture. Those are Nil seeds mixed in with the tri color seeds and about the same size, shape and color as the SOH seeds I remember growing. I`m going to try them and see what happens.

Arlan,

Yes we have a vacant lot available for this years MG crops. We`ll be growing around 100 different type not counting the crossing and tinkering that we`ll be doing too. We still have a few more days before cherry blossom season starts which signals the start of spring and I`ll be busy as a bee.

I'm increasing my growing area this year as well. I'm hoping to prepare about 240 feet of row space....we'll see how succesful I am in getting this accomplished! I am looking forward to an interesting year also. - Arlan

I'll try four different commercial SOH packs and some seeds that I purchased from a Japanese seller. This should be enough to find out something plus I'll do some tinkering with some too. A lot to keep my eye on this season.
