woodspirit1, it was an E-bay auction from this sellar.... strange_wonderful_things
Janett
Have you seen this one
There are a lot of wonderful brug auction on eBay now. And I noticed the feedback of two of the big sellers was 100% good. Are any of our DG friends selling there? If so, what is their names?
Don't know about the sellers, but I did see that this one finally went for $305.
I have bought Brugs through several EBay Sellers. Off the top of my head....... SeedSprout, Selarom8321, TCTopcat1, Kathy_Ann, green.thumbs.galore, AND DavidWV all come to mind. There are quite a few more very good others whose names escape me right now. I know quite a few of these Sellers from Dave's Garden but cannot tell you what their names here are....unless they are the same both places. Please understand that these Sellers are off the top of my head and I do use quite a few others that are very good also!!!
These Sellers all package very well. I rec'd Painted Lady today from "green.thumbs.galore" and not only was the packaging terrific but they also included some extras. I won't say what they were but I will say it all has made me a loyal fan & buyer.
I wish there were a way of knowing if they were DG members when we shop on EBay but unless they tell you in the description area, there isn't. It's a shame because I would buy from a DG Member first.
God bless, Margo
grrrnthumb thanks - will google when I leave here .
I just checked the sang again and there are leaves starting to pop thru ground . I fed it and moved to a shady spot with others from greenhouse -lots of light but no direct sun .
Kareoke, I just got my first brug a week ago and my first bloom today in a 4" pot. I raced over to this forum to post and am a bit intimidated. Why would anyone post what an astronomical fee they paid for a plant????I could understand if someone was asked what they paid for something...knowing it was not more than 20.00 and who the vendor was. The best analogy I know would be for someone to drive up to someone's home in a new Ferrari and greet their friend with what they paid for this fancy car.
Perhaps it is uncalled for me, a beginner, to point this out as inappropriate......I think I will wait to post my pic in a 4" pot blooming that I paid 4.00 for at the nursery with my friends on other forums.

such nice people on this forum......thanks
Sorry bettygail: your post momentarily got under my skin! Perhaps I misinterpreted it.
You probably interpreted it right....I need to keep my mouth closed!!!!!! Don't give it another thought...I should not have said that (LOL)
gail
LOL :-)
bettygail, I did not pay this for a plant, I just posted how amazed I was that a plant could go this high,
Doris
See, I know I should have kept my mouth shut!!!! I am truly sorry, Doris!!!!!
thanks for your response .....
I once heard of a new Day Lily that went for $5000 some years back, and the buyer picked it up in his own jet. So I guess that means even the most expensive brugs are cheap! LOL
Do you believe I have been wasting my day back on vulcanicolas. LOL. I came across this thread and see we all got sidetracked from the true ID of Vulcanicola. I still am so curious to see a "real" vulcanicola. People keep mentioning descriptions of it but I have never seen a pic of it showing a violet calyx. Is there a picture out there of it?
And whose descriptions from where keep getting quoted? Thanks
Hiya Kell! Good to see you getting brug fever back going again. ;^)
We've since come to the conclusion that the violet calyx is probably an environmental condition they get at high altitude, so we won't be able to use it for ID purposes.
Here is a pic of one with only a partially violet calyx: http://www.abads.org/images/species/vulcanicola/slides/zunac_vulcanicola_1.html
Also, the new book by Dr. Alistair Hay & Monika Gottschalk (coming soon) will hopefully have the original in-situ pic of Lockwood 621, which also shows the purple calyx at high altitude.
There are of course 2 really great pics of Mt. Purace-style vulcanicolas in the latest English edition of the Preissels book, "Brugmansia & Datura", and here is a link to a new gallery I have been putting together with several more in varying color combinations from Colombia & Ecuador: http://www.abads.org/images/species/vulcanicola/index.html It's still a work in progress, a little incomplete yet.

Yes, I seem to be getting dragged back into the brug world of audacious blooms which can only lead to trouble. LOL. I have 2 friends that are neck deep in brugs and spoil me with hot ones. Hard not to want to see them flowering in your yard. However, mites are still a huge brick wall blocking my desire. Though I have noticed that for the last 2 years in neglecting my brugs as in not fertilizing them much or even repotting them when needed, I hardly got any mites. So I think it may be true that mites are attracted to the lush green weedy growth of well fertilized brugs.
No violet calyx? How sad is that? LOL I was so looking forward to a brug with that!!!!!!!!!!! No offense, but your pic does not quite match the violet shade I had conjured up in my mind.
So Alistair found the pic from T Lockwood? Funny, just yesterday I was rereading our discussion on the photo 621. http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/689071/#post_3142823
I see under your picture you linked too: "Brugmansia vulcanicola, Zunac, Ecuador in-situ (Dan Newman)." So this was found and photographed in Zunac, Ecuador. Zunac is not the name of the vulcanicola is it? (Re coincidently what I discussed in my email to you this AM)
Oh I wish I had my Preissel book handy. Though I do not have the latest edition for sure. I find I need to keep refreshing myself on information I do not use often. My razor sharp mind seems to have dulled. LOL
Your work is great, Tom. What a delight that we all will have this as a reference. Thanks
Thanks Kell. :^) Yes Zunac is only the village nearest to where this was found. The real name is Brugmansia vulcanicola. It has started to informally develop the variation name based on it's location, to distinguinsh it's source from other vulcanicolas.
Sorry about the violet shade, lol, but it does exactly match the same violet shade shown for the calyces in the origal pics of Lockwood 621. I sure hope Alistair was able to get permission to use it.
