Could've been a House Finch maybe? They're sparrow-size and have rosy reddish bits on the front, head, and shoulders. Was it bright red? If so, then I'm probably wrong. Hope you see him again so you can get a pic.

Daily pics #6
Deb, that is a good possibility. I do hope he comes back by so I can get another look and possibly a photo or two. I've got that feeder with thistle in it set up just outside of my dining room window. I've also got a hummingbird feeder set up on that same roof line.
I saw a tiny little bird the other day twice, but neither time did I get a good enough look to ID him. He was adorable. First time I saw him he was getting some thistle. The second time, he flew to the feeder on the tree that has some sunflower seeds in it and then flitted away. I'm thinking he's probably one of those tiny titmouse birds.
The peanuts are a big hit with the big guys.
One of my feeders at the back fence was on the ground today. Originally it had a nylon "bootstring" thickness string. It broke earlier a few weekis ago. I replaced that with a soft maleable wire that I found in the little building. That broke today. I think I'm going to have to put some bailing (sp.?) wire on it, or else use copper. When it fell today, it dumped a whole bunch of seeds in my newest flower bed. Grrrrrrrrrrrr I don't mind some because the doves and squrrels usually clean up after themselves. This afternoon there must have been a half a dozen dove in the new bed just scarfing down. Oh well. I know it won't go to waste with all of the traffic in my yard.
I was up earlier than usual this morning and saw 2 teal fly over. It was still dark, but I know those little "low flying jet bodies" (from hunting). I ran into the house and got the binoculars (lotta good they were going to do me in the dark!). Needless to say, I didn't see any more of them.

Wow, we're on page 6 already!! Boy, have I missed a lot! Great pics everybody. I have been outside tilling and gardening and missing lots of good shots here too. But here are a few recent ones. This one is of a brown thrasher. It was taken from inside the house with the wrong lens so it isn't very clear. This is the first year I have seen the thrasher by the feeders. It usually does its foraging in the leaves close to my old pine tree. I guess its venturing out more this season (or its a new thrasher)
Here is Mr. and Mrs. Carolina Wren eating out at their favorite fast food place. They love this feeder. I'm hoping to get a picture of them when Mr. hops on to the window sill and peck at the window while craning his neck and looking in the house. I'm sure its to let me know that all the worms are gone. So of course I run to the fridge and get another container. All I can say is, I better get a big tip!!
Really nice pics Susan!
Beautiful pic b!!
Thank you... easy when the subject is beautiful!
Hi bsavage - I have a real hard time getting the color of a male cardinal to be true. So I really appreciate your photo!
Thanks pell! I'm excited because I saw the first pair of house hunting blue birds this morning. They were checking out a ten year old wren house with a chewed larger hole. Go figure... I have put up 5 blue bird houses this winter and they go for the one they're not supposed to like!! I just hope they discover the yummy meal worms in the feeder while they are at it!

As always, fabulous shots, lily & gardenpom... beautiful!
Wonderful pics everyone! I've been watching my feeders for the first hummingbird so I can try to get a pic. The tracker shows the Ruby Throats have arrived in SC, but nothing yet.

Oh how neat Resin and Bip. I love seeing photos of birds I am totally unfamiliar with! How unusual looking.
Wow Deb! I haven't checked the hummer tracker in a while - I'll have to go take a fresh peek. Thanks for the reminder. I guess I'll go buy an extra 5 pounds of sugar so I will be ready. :-)
Nice pics gardenpom - I'm so jealous of the variety of birds you get there.
Nice pics! I've never heard of them.
Boy, I haven't seen any red bellied woodeckers here since winter. I wonder if they go somewhere else to nest. Now that I've said that one will probably show up lol! I love the bright shots you got Pell.
Beautiful photos folks! I haven't had much of a chance to take photos lately. I sure have been enjoying all of those that you all have posted.
Janet
Beautiful!
That is a great shot of the IB; nice job!
Gardenpom, somehow I think that hummingbird shot is great! It's a hummingbird sillouette! And of course the P.B. is awesome and makes me wish I had some of those here in the desert....
Thanks, both of you....now that I have a hummer visiting again, hopefully I'll get some chances for good pics.
