Hi all,
I was given a couple of chestnuts (edible type nuts) that came directly from the place where
they were grown. I refrigerated them last fall and planted them this January. So far there
is no sign of sprouting (they're in my greenhouse) but when I unpotted them they had not rotted.
They are bigger than when I potted them up in the first place.
Does anyone know how long chestnuts take to sprout?
Thanks!

Chestnut question
They should really have sprouted (at least a root) by now. Doesn't sound too good, but keep them a little longer. Squeeze one gently; if it is soft and oozes nasty-smelling liquid, then it's rotted.
Resin
Thank you Resin,
When I unpotted them to check them out they were still very firm. I'll give them another month and check them again. I was afraid they might be the kind that need to go through two "winters" before they'll sprout.
Cheers!
MollyD
