yellow lilac bush

Davenport, IA

Is this the place I would ask about a yellow lilac bush? In case it is, here's the question. I saw these at Lowes, they're about 5 inch tall sticks. How long will it take to produce flowers, and can I grow it in a container? Thanks.

If you are talking about a syringa; it is not screaming yellow, but soft yellow, and it can take up to 3 years before it blooms, if you prune it right ( which is not at all if you can avoid it) and the flowers can take several years to reveal their real colour. Mine have been blooming white for a few years!
I wouldn't stick them in a pot, but you could probably give it a try in a half barrel or something of that size.

You want to read about pruning them, they bloom on 2 year old wood! Snipping off too much will result in no blooms.

Thanks so much, I guess I'll put it in the ground when the time comes and be patient.

Oh, they grow fairly fast, it's the blooming that may take a while. And although their bloomtime is so brief, you can plant more than one with overlapping blooms, and the smell is unforgettable!!!

I too love lilacs and have many, including a few "yellows". Mine have never bloomed yellow, and yes i am patiently waiting and have heard the "many years to reach mature colour" bit....

My question is; Has anyone's actually bloomed the light yellow they are said to? Perhaps there thousands of people out there waiting for their white lilacs to turn yellow. :)

Klehm's Song Sparrow Nursery carries one that is yellow.Syringa Pekinensis Beijing Gold ® ('Zhang Zhiming')

I've heard of people buying one they believe to be yellow and by the time it flowers it ends up being white. I believe Klehm's would guarantee that the plant would be yellow, where by the time yours flowered from Lowes, the guarantee would be up.

I received an offer from Spring Hill Nursuries today for a Josee Reblooming Lilac and would like to know if any one has had previous experience with this plant. I plan on putting it in a large pot and I do not mind waiting for color, but I am concerned about the smell. Someone told me they do not smell like the traditional lilac. I have two other lilacs in large pots around my patio and they are doing fine.

I have a yellow lilac, and it has yellow buds, but in reality blooms white. It is Primrose from Syringa Plus

Josee is a fantastic lilac. Mine blooms in waves, about 4 times a year. I religously cut off the spent flowers after bloom, which seems to help it rebloom. It does not have much odor at all, as far as I'm concerned, but it's a beautiful flower. (PS-watch Spring Hills). Mine is from Select Plus.
