This is a Majestic red Calla that has just bloomed in my garden. When we used grow Calla flowers commercially we sometimes got these lilies with a double spathe. We used to think they had no market value and used to give them away. A flower marketer called and saw some we had put aside and asked what we were going to do with them. When we told him they were in our 'give away' bucket he said that was crazy and that we should bunch them up in five stem lots and mark the selling label as 'Exotics'.
Tried them out first in the local market and the florists just loved them and were soon ordering them. We rarely had enough to fill up an export box but whatever way they went out they all gave good prices back to us.
This one is pretty short stemmed and would never have made the grade...Lol.
But no worries now as no longer growing for flower stems production. So I can just admire it for it's colour and its funny form!
