CLOSED: Is there a kids trading forum?

Rose Lodge, OR(Zone 8b)

Robyn, I think she's bringing more joy to us than vice versa.

I don't have kids, so it's always a delight for me to find a way to share their lives ...

It just tickles me to think of her dreaming & drawing up gardens, just like I do in bed at night, and then trying to glom onto envelopes that aren't hers!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Oh, the extras just jumped in because the envelope didn't make it out today... and I saw that she was especially interested in butterfly garden seeds... :-)

Summer said it well!

We've been having races to the mailbox when she gets home from school. This ole lady can move when she needs to. When we open a package we immediately come to the computer and look up all the names. The we write all the info down and talk about where to put them. She's got a good eye for color combos and if we're not sure I let her ask her mother who is a graphic design artist. Lots of time we just decide we want all the colors and different heights to go in all the areas. Needless to say our garden have changed many times, thank heaven right now it's only on paper.

I can't wait for all this to grow so we can take pictures to show all of you.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

What a wonderful activity and hobby for the two of you to share! We sure are looking forward to pictures...

Thanks for letting us participate in the fun! :-)

Robyn and Kali - The seeds packets went out today at the post office. I think there were a total of 9-10 packets with plenty of seeds to help get her butterfly garden started. I don't see that you get the Sulphur butterflies, so I didn't include the cassia seeds. But I did add some Spicebush (which is the Spicebush Swallowtail host plant) that I had left over. The seeds have already been cold stratified, so all she has to do is plant them. I read that Spicebush is a native of MO, so I wondered if you might already have some in your yard. If so, have her use it to trade for something else she wants. ;-) If not, those cats are the coolest ever! They are beautiful!!!! I'd love to raise some of them in a cage. Maybe planting some Spicebush seeds this year will entice them into my yard in the future. I am hoping!!!

I am not sure if the Passionflower vine needs cold stratification. You might want to read up on that one. It is Passiflora incarnata. I don't think it does, but I could be wrong. (I did not chill those seeds.)

I sent a number of daylily seeds. All kinds. Dwarf and large. Most are no-name and unknown because I got them from a person who grows named varieties and she has ALL kinds! The bees pollinated them, so there is NO telling what the flowers will look like. You might get something truly unique! I am sure there are purple, pink, yellow, red, orange, and other variations of flower colors. There are also some Stella d'Oro seeds - yellow and purple flowers. You might want to read up on how to start daylily seeds. I think there is a trick to get them to germinate quickly. They usually don't bloom the first year. But the Stella's might. :-)

Also, remember .... the first year is a starter garden and some of the plants grow slow, the second seems like the plants are getting more established, and the third year is when EVERYTHING takes off in growth and you'll have a "jungle" in your yard! LOL! That has been my experience.

Happy Late Winter or Spring sowing! I know your garden beds are going to look simply stunning when all the seeds start sprouting and growing! It's gonna look like a gardeners paradise and butterfly heaven!

Enjoy! Do post a photo when everything is in the ground. And then again when the plants start sprouting and then another when the growth is going strong! I love to see photos like that. It's so exciting!!!

Becky, Critter the seeds came yesterday. I put them aside for Kali to open last night and we forgot about them til just alittle while ago. She was home sick again. Darn flu bug is going around again.
Anyway you should have seen her eyes bug out. So many wonderful seeds. Kali's Garden seeds, she loves them. very cute Becky. We checked each one out on the computer and have started them in the mini greenhouse(garage). I'm so glad there is lots of natural light in there and it stays warm. She is so excited, so am I. She told me to make sure I call about the lawnmower and make sure its fixed so we can start the garden this weekend. Still too much chance for a late season frost. I am going out to start digging new areas here shortly. maybe I can get a frost to kill all the weeds I'll turn over. hehe kill, kill, kill. She would have gotten on and thanked you herself but she is back in bed asleep. maybe later.
Thank you all again. We will most assuredly take lots of pics. this year.
Wish it were warmer so the hummers and butters could show up.

I'm glad to know the seeds arrived and that the two of you are already having fun with them... but I'm sure sorry to hear that Kali is down with the flu! She has to get better quickly! Spring is here!! :-)

Robin And Kali - I am so glad you received the seeds and I can't believe that you have already started them! Y'all are on the ball !!! I am so sorry to hear that Kali has had the flu. Such a bummer! It's been going around and around our school for two months here. I guess the weather here in my area just doesn't get cold enough to kill those flu bugs, so they keep showing up and making everyone sick. Sending get well wishes to Kali! Enjoy all the seeds/plants and may they bring lots and lots of butterflies to your gardens! I look forward to seeing some photos in the future! :-) I know it's going to beautiful!!! ♥ Happy Spring Gardening!♥
