Gloria that is really cool!! I would go there weekly if i lived that close. Peek bloom for me is mid June here
I plan to go in June and maybe in July too. Maybe meet you there! :) Anyone else want to go?

Cold here still but they are showing 50s next week! :)
I have some tomatoes sprouted(im late this yr)and i seem to have the fungus gnats under control
I bought some knockout gnats that you add to the water and it has seem to KNOCK em out!

I cant wait till next week to go to Hortmark and get some soil and containers and whatever else
I can find.. Then the transplanting from the garden will get started. The plants are already growing
out there and i have a hellebrose that may be blooming. I saw the buds last week when it was warm
but i havent been back to check it as it was to darn cold and its on the north side of the house,,winds have been from the north and very strong. I didnt even go to the mailbox the last few days. I let my son bring it in when he gets off the bus.lol

Slugging down a green beer for you all!! (burp..)

Sunny but cold here.. I walked out to the greenhouse to see how the DL fared that I put out there and they look mighty sad. All slumped over and limp..kinda like lettuce that freezes in the frig. I don't know that they will make it. But I have more inside. It is toasty in the GH, but got to 19 here overnight. End of the month I plant on sticking things out there with a small heater...

I had some wave petunias die from damping off....does that stuff spread? If it does, I'm in big trouble.

Going off shopping with DIL....she's not a gardener so no visits to 'my kinda place'!!

Sanford, MI(Zone 5a)

Hi I went by Center peace on my way home I don't think its what we thought it was as I'm told the people that live there took half of the easement to the water and planted itI diden't see much of anything it the way of gardens and no one was around to ask sooooo I'll keep cheking on it to see what is going on and what it isvery nice neaborhood though right on a canal. interesting

Mother Nature is just letting us know she is in charge...... DH is working getting our 17 pulp cord of wood cut up..Hopefully he will have it done early this year. I have a feeling he will be going in for a hip replacement this fall. We have the Kabota,.. so I will be able to keep the fire in the furnace.I know he won`t have it done in the summer,he loves to be out side and on the lakes fishing.. So, HAPPY SPRING! Aaleta

I went outside too - just to blow the cob webs from my brain! But man....it was freezing out== strong easy wind. I had on a winter coat, gloves, and a hood and I sure didn't dilly dally... Quick job around the beds to see if anything new had sprouted and came back inside. Tomorrow the temps are supposed to go up some..Did anyone hear the forecast for spring break week...waaaaa supposed to be freezing again.. I'm stuck at home this year

It's raining....it's pouring.....the old man is snoring...

Man did we have tremendous lightning last night!!! This will get the frost out of the ground! Come on spring....

Charlevoix, MI(Zone 4b)

My poor hostas are under six inches of cold water! My whole yard is a soupy mess. Oh well...c'mon warm weather! :)

Kids are loving the "pond". I think this is their favorite time of year, they get the rubber boots out and go catch crayfish (crawfish, crawdads...whatever).

My sedum is up! My ivy is nice and green, some irises have poked out and the tulip bulbs that were washed away have been replanted.

Now I get to wait for the cable guy to show up so we can figure out why our internet is so s-l-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-w!!

I'm expecting several seed orders and some plants in the mail today...YEEE HAA!

Michelle,
Love the puppy - my sister in Troy is a breeder, this wouldn't be one of hers possibly? They're wonderful dogs with kids.

This is our first spring in our new home here and we're discovering all the places water pools. Can't walk out to where we put our compost bins without tall boots! Or to the door on the side of the barn. The road about a half mile down is becoming a sink whole. But the thunder and lightening should have driven some of the frost out, maybe it will drain now. Warm weather is on its way though. Yippeee! Haven't seen any signs of the bulbs I planted last fall yet. Think that's a good thing. The deer, 30 of them one Saturday, have spent the winter hovering over the bed I dug for all the hostas I moved from our old house. It's out front by the road under some beautiful old cedars. Need some suggestions on how I'm going to keep them from eating everything as it comes up! They've been coming right up to the garden along the front of the house and eating off my red sorrel as new leaves appear - in the middle of the night so I can't shoo them away!

My greenhouse babies are doing great! Early cuttings and seedlings I transplanted are growing and seeds I started last weekend are starting to come up. I love this time of year when everything starts turning green! Wish I could stay all day out there, but have to go to work in town soon. Hope everyone has a great day.

YEP! Spring is here calendar wise.
notmartha, those are gorgeous tulpis you photoed. Our's just started shooting up a few days ago. I still have mulch around them. Should I remove the mulch for more sunlight and ray-heat to make them bloom stronger?
Thanks!

SPRING FEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AuGres, MI(Zone 5b)

We have loads of water at our property too. I saw a couple little ducks swimming up the drainage ditch and then over into the yard. For a few weeks a year I have lakefront property without the cost. Ha!! It's dry around the house and my flower and vegetable garden spots are not under water. I'm glad for that. I got my fruit trees pruned yesterday. I hope it wasn't too late. I usually do it in February but just couldn't bring myself to go out there and do it in the extreme cold. This weekend I will get hubby to spray them with the fruit tree spray.

I've had good luck keeping the deer at bay with a spray called Liquid Fence. It is expensive but works really well as long as you remember to reapply it every few weeks. I forgot to spray just before winter hit and the rabbits were chewing on my roses. Darn rabbits. When I noticed the damage I got out there and sprayed.

I'm babysitting my grandbaby today. She is sick and so is my daughter in law. They are going to the doctor then she's dropping her off here so she can go home and get some rest. I better get going and run the sweeper and sweep and mop the kitchen floor. She's crawling everywhere and puts everything in her mouth. :)

I got my Preen down a couple weeks ago. I'm glad since I see things coming up and growing which means the weed seeds have probably germinated by now. I want to get some turf building down on the lawn around the house this weekend. The rabbits did leave plenty of fertilizer around though so I don't know if the grass needs Scotts or not. What do you think? :) :) :)

Have a great weekend everyone!!

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

I'm off to put down grass seed....we had a ton of our lawn die this year...how does that happen?

Sun is trying to peep out, but the clouds keep getting in the way.

Tomorrow I'm taking a hypertufa class...can't wait. I've wanted to do that for years and just stumbled onto a class being offered.

We have a pair of blue birds snooping around in the nest boxes. Sure hope those darn sparrows don't decide to fight with them. I'm off for now!

Algonac, MI

Hey Loon....those rabbits make great gumbo. So do squrriels. Deer ain't bad chewin' on either.
Hope your GB and daughter is doing much better by the time you read this dribble.
Later!
