Kashmir Cypress

Acton, CA(Zone 8b)

Seen these is several botanical gardens and fell in love with this tree (which is rare for me to like a non-palm)... but am really confused as to what it is, really... there are two commonly used scientific names, and they sure look like the same tree to me... but are very unrelated names... both Cupressus... but one is C torulosa var. cashmeriana, and the other is C himalaica var. darjeelingensis... which is the REAL Kashmir Cypress? Any conifer experts?

This is my wimpy seedlings ...hardly blue.. yet.

Cupressus cashmeriana is the correct name. Despite the name, it is actually native to Bhutan and perhaps also adjacent northeastern India, but not Kashmir (where Cupressus torulosa, a distinct species, is native).

Seedlings? I am very curious: when did they begin with adult foliage that they have now, as opposed to the prickly looking awl shaped needles?

I had some seedlings from Forest Farm once. Came as 4 footers(1.2m), and I grew them for 3 years as house plants. Never was there an inkling of adult foliage.
