Southern South American Trees Being Felled by Beavers

Beautiful, BC(Zone 8b)

I was talking with someone who just came back from a Patagonian vacation. She said there was a significant number of felled trees and beaver dams in many of the areas she visited. Beavers? Say what!? Yep, imported to produce fur but it wasn't cold enough so the coats weren't thick enough and the market fell-through. All those lovely Nothofagus, Embothrium, Saxegothaea, etc being felled and new swampy areas being made. Who would'a thunk?

It's "beaver dam" or was that slip intentional? I know they are sorry they brought those damming things.

Depends . . .

It's 'dam' throughout, here :-)

LOL. Don't be building those unaurthorize dams.

Cincinnati, OH(Zone 6b)

Perhaps it is time for beaver pelt hats to come back into fashion?

This reminds me of the nutria problem in the Southern states (reverse the direction of export/import).

There are plenty of other similar problems such as rabbits and cane toads in Australia, wild pigs in Hawaii, rats and mongeese in Puerto Rico, etc. Maybe people shouldn't be allowed to move about so everything remains in perfect isolation. Too late now.

Very funny. I think this could actually happen. Ha!
