It's just WAY too quiet over her in Begonias!

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

So let's liven it up shall we? Here's a few new kids I couldn't resist.
Of course they don't have name tags but they are sweet nonetheless. This might be Begonia rex (the original rex) but can't say for sure.

another without a tag. Has the same look and feel as B. 'Judy Cook' but the leaf shape is not the same.

A real silvery one. Again, no tags. But that's ok. still love it.

Those are all pretty, but I really like the first one! I've been making the rounds here with hopes high, but no begonias, AVs, or anything else interesting yet.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

You realize, begoniacrazii, that we follow your thread because:
1. You are funny!!
2. You always have something going in the way of outstanding plants
3. You share pictures!!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I am a Lali groupie too, Betty! And you forgot to mention she is just so smart. And beautiful too.

Great ones!! I am so jealous.

Mansfield, TX(Zone 8a)

More pictures, please, Lali, for those of us who are deprived :-)

(Zone 1)

Oh, you are making me a wannabe Begonia Addict! Where does one find these beauties? Is there an on-line source? We have only 2 nurseries left here in Daytona Beach and they seem to carry mostly outdoor garden plants, very few house plants! I absolutely love that first one Begonia Rex I think you called it!

Yes ... more photo's of your lovelies, Please!

plantladylin, may I be your personal shopper???? I will dmail you begonias galore that i have picked up recently. Not knowing that I could find them down here, i order sooo verrry many from GlassHouseWorks.....

Powder Springs, GA(Zone 7b)

plantlady,

I know it's a ways down to Miami from Daytona (but a lot closer than Atlanta) but if you can't find any decent supplier near you, then you have to visit Palm Hammock Orchid Estates (PHOE) in Miami. Take a truck (or large car) and your credit card. I have gone the last two years and have thoroughly enjoyed it.

Here is a sampling of what you can expect to find there.

Gail: You are a Hoot! I'm beginning to think that you have every plant imaginable! You might as well start your own nursery business! If you had an internet business, I would be your BEST customer!

Hcmcdole: Wow! That Palm Hammock place looks amazing! I wonder where they ship all those Zillions of Begonia's??? Wonder why we don't see many Begonia's in Garden Centers like Home Depot, Lowes or Wal-Mart? That place looks amazing. I have family down in Fort Lauderdale area, but I never go to Miami. Actually, I don't drive on the Interstate's anymore at all .... all the speeding traffic makes me so nervous, I would likely cause an accident for sure. I prefer to fly whenI have to travel anwhere.

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

Lin, you can call Tim at Palm Hammock and place an order. His web site hasn't been updated to have a shopping cart, but they do take order via phone. One caveat is that I've been trying to get an order for months now and it hasn't happened. I have been emailing for some weirdo begonias and not calling so perhaps one would have better luck over the phone.

The begonias I found above are grown about 8 miles down the road! But the nursery is not open to the public. I have to scavenge at the local nurseries to get them.
But who doesn't like a good nursery hunt!!!

(Zone 1)

Thanks Begoniacrazii .... I will give that some thought. Right now I am Spring Cleaning, but as soon as I get organized, The Hunt Is On! :)

I have ordered from PHOE in the past over the phone but the last time I did they gave me a little run around - "they don't do mail order". Then why even bother having a website and show some pricing? Anyway it took a couple of phone calls to get the order underway. They may get some things wrong as well. The best way to get exactly what you want is to visit in person; this way you get much larger begonias for not much more (think $10 for a gallon size versus $7.50 for a 4 inch pot as an example). Also you pick out the best of the lot.

A lot of people give the big box stores a bad rap but if I was a grower I'd try to get a contract with them to get my product out to the masses. After all, they (the big box stores) have distribution, location, and name recognition. It's not like we can just hop in the car and drive to S. FL. or CA. to pick over begonias on a whim after all.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I got some great 4 inch begonias too that originated from the same place Lali got hers from.
I kill these hot PINK ones but always have to buy just one more. Not enough humidity usually here.

Lovely Begonia's Kell.

Is the first hot pink one 'Raspberry Swirl'? The third one looks like 'Wildfire'. Rexes are hard to beat for color, aren't they?

I need to go look for my picture on Suzie's Curl now. I'm fairly certain it is a lot different color than yours. Plum Gorgeous is pretty nice. Here's mine in an 18 inch pot.
