This is growing on USFS property near me. It's an old giant and I hope it survives many more years.

We are losing any regrowth of the local hemlocks because of deer numbers exceeding 50/square mile. Balsam and Spruce becoming dominant. State and National forests becoming "park like" with very little understory.

What about Hemlock Woolly Adelgid? Has that not reached there yet?

Local hemlock trees are under siege from the Woolly Adelgid.

I've got a pair of Tsuga canadensis, now 25', that I treasure. Is this Woolly Adelgid menace moving west? We are already beseiged by gypsy moth, emerald ash borer and oak wilt. It ain't fair.
