Our weather has been pretty cold. We had snow and ice on the ground, never reaching 32 degrees, for 3 or 4 weeks. My snow finally disappeared about a week ago, but I was at a shopping center tonight, and they still have mountains of snow 4 ft high by 30 ft long, so you know it hasn't been too warm. I thought it was too cold for slugs to become active yet, but have seen several posts lately on garden forums about people finding slugs. They were in warmer zones than me so I thought I wasn't in danger yet. To find out I put 3 small pieces of wood out flat on the ground yesterday, each in a different bed. Today, I found a slimy snotty slug under one of them. I measured the soil temp at 40 degrees 3 inches below the surface. But I did go around flinging Sluggo in my beds.
Shows what I know. Even in this cold those slimy snots are active, so for those of you who care to treat for them, it might actually be time to treat with Sluggo or trap or whatever method you prefer.

Heads up on those slugs
