I have a bunch of smaller (size-wise) seeds
they all will be planted in the same general area.
I also have mixes, like Dryland Mix and Bird & Butterfly Mix
could i mix all these seeds together and then do the HOS method to plant them?
here are the ones in question -- and has anyone done this before?
Coreopsis, Cosmos, Mexican Hats, Shasta Daisy, Wild Bergamot, vervain and some cornflower
I think combined, I have 1500 to 2000 seeds (I was gonna direct sow them, or some of'em)
I figured I could WS in larger containers, like the "small turkey foil pans" then just scoop out and HOS plant them.
It's OK that they'd be willy-nilly assorted.
TIA,

Mixing various seeds
I see a few problems with that. Some will be ready to plant out while others are not. Another problem might be varying height and spacing. That might keep the smaller ones from growing or they could be stunted by lack of sun due to being dwarfed by larger plants.... I guess it depends on your own comfort level with this.

I WS'd a bird and butterfly mix I received in trade this year, and the different seeds are germinating at different times, and so Karen's observation about the different plant out times is probably dead on. It is kind of fun seeing what new things have popped up from day to day, but I expect trouble around the corner when some of them are ready enough to plant out and others are still in the tiny stage. However, if the faster ones aren't too far ahead of the rest, I might have a pretty easy time of it...
It sure seems like a neat way to premix your garden plantings to mix up seeds and sow them :0) Elizabeth
Karen,
i never thought about the height difference -
I did a wild flower mix last spring -- just direct sowed and they came out fine.
but what you said certainly makes sense.

Terese: I don't really know since I've never tried it; I'm just guessing.
With HOS things will be very closely spaced, probably more so than just broadcasting by tossing over a bed. Some cosmos might grow to be 4 or 5 ft, cornflowers 3 or 4 ft, whereas my Mexican hats last year were only about 15 inches. I would think that the smaller ones among the taller ones would be totally shaded and overcome if planted that closely by hos. But again it might work fine, I just don't know.

I did a hanging pot today with Petunias and Morning Glories. I don't exactly mix them, I have some in one corner and the other in another corner. Cross your fingers for me.
If your direct sow mixes worked last year, why not do it again?
