Do you wick water all of your Episcias Ccino?

Drumheller, Alberta, Canada(Zone 3a)

No I only wick a few in really light soil. They are heavy feeders though. Same with some of my Streps. I wick a few especially in the winter when it is dry but I will take them out in the spring.
This is Party Girl and her first blooms in Oct.

Thanks.I have never wicked mine and I saw your wick so it got me curious : ) Do you fertilize with the same fertilizer as you use on your av's?And also..what fertilizer do you use for your Av's? Your plants are spectacular!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

OK....the rules of the game change.....yours are so pretty I can't stand it.....I am no longer picking up these....I am going to start ordering....have fewer maybe, but pretty like yours...plus I am going to change my nutrition and start your feeding method....I have the fantasy that looks like Rob's splatter something and I can't make them bloom...have a couple of them...whole new ballgame, Ccino, that you started!!! (LOL)

OK cedarnest, mine are looking pretty puny next to the goodies!!!!!!

(Zone 1)

Wow! I really like that one in the photo above (post #3295974) with the whitish/pale pink flower! Does that one have a name? And, is that flower considered the one I've heard referred to as a wasp? I am a novice still when it comes to AV's.

Cedarnest/Nancy: I could meet you at the nearest airport, but I ain't driving! I don't drive on the Interstate anymore at all! The extent of my driving is right around my general area ... that's about all I can handle! I love to fly whenever I travel.

Hey! I could fly to Texas, meet Bettygail .... head to Nebraska to pick you up and head on to Alberta .... As long as someone else does the driving, I would be fine. Only problem for me would be .... I would have to ship a LOT of AV's and Gessie's back to Florida! :)

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

No..Yours are very beautiful too Gail : )

(Zone 1)

No Way Gail .... Your's look Wonderful too! It amazes and awes me to see all y'all's Beautiful Babies!

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

LOL Lin,Oh I never thought of the shipping part.Drat : ( I would really be up a creek because I can't sit too long of time in a car and I have never flown anywhere LOL.

(Zone 1)

Gail: Check your home email!

(Zone 1)

Nancy: I can't sit too long in a car either. It's a 3 1/2 hour drive from my house to my sister's house in South Florida and we have to stop at least once, sometimes twice for me .... I get REALLY stiff when I've been sitting for awhile. Arthritis ... ain't it wonderful?/?!!??/!

My husband teaches at an Aeronautical University, has been in the Aviation field for many, many, years - teaching it for 31 years and I have not flown a whole lot myself. But, I am fine for one or two hours in the air, but have never been in a plane longer than 2 hours! When my husband was in the military in the early 70's he was on an aircraft carrier over in the Mediterranean Sea for many months at a time. Over the holidays they had a thing where dependant's could fly over for free ... I had NEVER been on a plane back then, so I was scared to do it ... so, he came home every holiday when his squadron was deployed over there! We are big fans of our University Basketball team and they have played in tournament's in Hawaii and Europe a few times. I could have gone, but was too chicken to be on a plane for such a long time and over the ocean! I have flown over the Ocean a couple of times, just a little ways ... from Florida to the Bahama's ... we've gone on vacation there a couple of times. My husband actually took his 24' boat from Fort Lauderdale to the Bahama's in 2004, with my brother in law and a friend. The ladies flew over and met them. We rented a house for a week and had a ball. My husband and our friend are both scuba divers. And my brother in law and nephew (who flew over also) are AVID fishermen .... so we all had a great time. We plan on going back again summer 2008.

Well ... I've gotten way off topic here!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I did and i answered very clearly, my friend!!!!! Cedarnest, you and i could travel (LOL). I don't fly anywhere...terrified of airplanes, but I used to love to antique(years ago) and drove all over the USA stopping every 30 minutes because i can't sit......Now I shop for flowers and few people (only 2 friends will go with me)!!!! One friend and I had to go to Europe on a boat because I wouldn't fly...that is pathetic and then rode the train for months sleeping in a chair at night....oh for youth again)
Knowing now that I am going to order some of the babies, where do you all think the best bet is.....I have streps and episcas coming from Gary Mitika........do you think that rob's are too small and scary??? or just start with Bluebird???

Drumheller, Alberta, Canada(Zone 3a)

cedarnest - I use Miracle Grow 7-7-7, Plant Prod forflowering plants 15-30-15 and Schult AV food 8-14-9
I alternate between the 3 as well as a watering of no food to clean their palite LOL

plantladylin - that bloom is not a wasp but looks like one as it is just opening. That plant is called Texas Buttercup.

bettygail - I buy my plants on ebay in the summer. But in the Spring - I already have 2 order in I use bloomlover.com - but she is in Canada. I also however order from The Velvet leaf.com she is in Calif her leaves are great! I really recommend her for you. thevelvetleaf.com

Would you all just stop...my heart is jumping. Your pics are just wonderful, and I just can't keep buying african violets. I must leave some money for outside plants.

Deb

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

It is most definitely becoming a crisis in my life (LOL)....really, I have to start spending more time on the outside than with my babies......
I probably won't be ordering just leaves for a while, but thanks for the info and will keep it. I am growing my first leaves now and seem to be doing great....won't go to ebay because I have had several friends who got their identity stolen on Ebay......just being extra cautious!!!

Drumheller, Alberta, Canada(Zone 3a)

Hi Bettygail
Don't blame you at all regarding ebay! I used to sell there but I stopped over a year ago. I just buy the odd thing off of there now.
Too bad you are in the US I would gladly send you some leaves.
I have been given lots of time now in my life - my spouse has flown the coop. So I needed a distraction to help me cope. These plants have been a blessing to me.

BettyGail, did you just go on another shopping sprere??? Love the Blue one edged in white And the one that variegated bright white with the pink blooms!!!! Love that one.

Debbie

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

yes, I did, Debbie, but the rules are quickly changing......Ccino42 has inspired me to at least order a few "fancy pansy" ones!!!!! If I am going to spend this much time nurturing them........I might as well treat myself to some real ones!!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

My goodness, life is good...I just wished it and it was at the post office this morning from Allison in Florida. I cannot believe that she sent me all these plants that she had propagated and are gorgeous......one tiny leaf on the rex begonia was broken and NOTHING more.....amazing!! I learned finally how to pack plants properly.
Remember I have never even seen a live Episcia, let alone with stolon (sp?).
Here is the list as she marked each plant carefully:
baby 2" pots are:Rake Wasp by David Senk, Chirita Sinensis 'Hisako', Russian IAN-Selena 'Moon Goddess', 'Little Shimmer' semi miniature
The 4" pots she grew are: Rex Begonia 'Edge of Sunset', angelwing that blooms white (can't remember), Alsobia Cygnet, Episcias called:
"Blue Heaven', 'Grey Lady', 'Chocolate Soldier', 'Teddy Bear'
What a gift and what a responsibility to learn about these and their needs...When they get big I will make another post!!
thanks for letting me 'show off' a second or two....

Blue Heaven is a lovely little plant. I just got one in Oct but it hasn't bloomed yet.

I have been a member at DG for a few years now. But do not post often here.
I belong to 2 other AV forums that I do post to more often.
I have only started the Named Varities in the past year, so I too am a novice!
