Many of us are new to this family of fabulous flowers!! Some of the old timers are not posting anymore.....hope you will share any pic and the name of what you do have......thanks,
gail
Please share your named AV's or others in the family
I may be fertilizing too much as all 25 of mine (not named ones) are blooming like crazy. I have ordered some streps and can hardly wait for them to come. I got spoiled being able to ask questions every day!!! I may go back and find some good threads to study and bump them up............having AV forum withdrawals!! (LOL)
It is fun to see what people have ....then the newbies like me can figure out what we would like to order or have...
thanks and maybe more people will jump in....does begoniacrazii grow AV's??
love that 'Chico' a lot!!

when I found this variegated one, I ended up buying a lot.....I will take a new pic to show you how big they are now....some are more than 10" across and the outer leaves are now turning into variegated leaves, also. I don't have time in the next two weeks to ship but would be happy to trade some of these for something I don't have...
I can't show you right now the giant variegated ones....no more batteries, even the rechargeable ones won't hold anymore!!!
Thanks for sharing your beauties everyone. They are like a Breath Of Spring..Ahhhhh : )
Nancy
Ok Gail: Fess up ..... what are you feeding those Beauties???!!! I really, really want to know what kind of fertilizer you are using!
Lin
Lin, remember first that I know nothing except by trial and error....I use Schultz liquid African Violet Plus (8-14-9) that I got at either Lowes or Wally World. It says to measure 7 drops to a quart of water. I just take a 2 quart pitcher and empty the dropper twice which is over a half full and less than 3/4 full . I always start with pretty warm water from the tap. Who knows, they may quit blooming, but they seem to like it!!!??????
This pic is really blurry, but all the AV's have this many blooms on them. I do confess that I keep them under shelves which each have one gro light attached to the bottom of each shelf keeping them probably warmer and more light than those sitting in windows??????????
And, what Beautiful Friends you have there Gail. Looks like you have quite a collection going! I have a couple of stands set up with lights too, and I am real new to all these "Named" Varieties myself. I have loved African Violet's and grown a few over the years, but never realized how many different and really pretty ones are out there, until joining DG. I had no clue that some AV's have variegated colored leaves until just a couple of months ago when I joined DG. Sure can become "Addictive" real fast, huh? I don't drink, so this is a Good Addiction!
Keep posting those pretty posies of yours Gail .... Lovely photo's!
Lin
This is so much an addiction with plants!!! I am not even convinced yet that it is better than drinking!!!!! (LOL)
have to call technician again to see what i am doing wrong to the settings on camera......oh well, it does take me away from DG for a while!!!!
I really enjoy seeing the photos everyone posts. I can't wait for spring to come with a little warmer weather. AVs seems to enjoy the extra light and warmth.
Who else has pictures to share?
Nanna: Love your photo's! I recently bought one of the Optimara 'Ever Grace'. I thing I got it from Bluebird Greenhouse. It has buds and one bloom is opened, but it is a real tiny flower with not much coloration to it at all. I love the photo of your Evergrace and that's what I thought mine was supposed to look like. The flower on mine is so tiny, it looks like a miniature! I wonder if it's a mutant or something, it sure doesn't look like I thought it was going to.
Forgot to ask ... do you know the name of that mini verigated fern? It is really pretty, I love it. It does look like little blossoms all over it!
Wow, Nana, I love your blooms.....I have never even seen white ones! What color does your variegated leafed one in the background bloom?
I am like Lin, I want to know about that mini variegated fern??????????????? thanks for all the photos.....couldn't everyone just play in flowers all day long?
Also, while I am asking questions, what is that foliage (kinda reddish) behind 'Rhapsody Coral'?
The variegated firm is called pilea miniature variegations. I got it from the aquarium plant section at the Garden Store I go to frequently. It grows slowly and I think it looks nice with the violets. The variegated leaf in the background is another plant of Frozen in Time. The foliage "kinda reddish" behind Rhapsody Cora is an episcia called Pink Acajou.
Boo Man is a true white bloom. The plant is semi miniature and has good form. This is a plant that I grew from a leaf. The blooms last a long time. I have to cut off the blooms before they die because they last so long the crown leaves begin to be very small. All the energy goes into the blooms.
About Ever Grace, Lin. It does look small. Do I see suckering on the bottom left? All of the everseries plants I have had have a strong tendency to sucker. If the suckers go unchecked they can use up all the energy of the plant.
I looked at the picture again. It does look like a sucker to me. The new buds look pretty good size. As far as the color of the blooms--they range from all white to lots of blue and white.
Good Eye Nanna: I don't know a whole lot about AV's, just love growing them! You got it though .... that is a sucker and looking even closer at this plant, there's another little sucker coming up on the other side. I didn't re-pot the plant when I got it, guess I better get that done and remove and pot up those suckers while in the process. Thank you so much for noticing that! I really need to pay more attention to my plants!
Lin
Very Nice WVdaisy! Lovely AV's .... every once in awhile I find nice ones at our WalMart and Lowes too!
