Seems that just before the plane crashed the pilot slowed for a mid-air inspection by another plane near by. A nose gear light lit up and shortly there after smoke started to billow from behind the instrument panel. The pilot then turned off the master electrical swith which stopped the smoke, but also killed the engine. His attempt to switch fuel tanks to restart the engine failed causing the plane to stall and crash. This according to a prliminary report by the NTSB.
