Rare Xanthosoma Palmatum??

Louisville, KY

I have only found one source for this and it was from a farmer in Costa rica who collected odd xanthosomas. He told me it was a hybrid and I do believe it maybe a hybrid or a very odd species. I am still not sure and all the experts I have shown it to seem to agree they have no idea exactly what it might be. Xanthosomas are a hard group to ID let alone a possible hybrid. The leaves are shaped odd and the back lobes stick up like a dogs ears. When larger the bigger leaves cup up like giant bowles. The stem coloration is different than any other I have seen on Xanthosomas at times the new stems are yellow to pink and compared to all my other species this one seems quite odd. I have not been able to contact my friend in Costa rica. Has anyone seen this form?? It reminds me of colocasia coffee cups but a xanthosoma form.

Here are my lovely workers showing off the leaves. As you can tell they really cup up a lot.

Brian-
How odd and interesting. I haven't seen Alistair in awhile. Perhaps you can shoot him an email and ask if he has any info. Perhaps one of the Costa Rican flora experts will chime in.

Very unusual. Are you having that kind of weather or was the photo made last year? (cute helpers).

Those are huge leaves, Brian! They would be great to use for tufa planters.
