Who's Got Inflo's?

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

John, I would try the Isotox first. That may be just as good. That Forbid does seem to be awfully expensive. I only bought it because I have over 500 plumerias and a bunch of brugmansias and other mite magnets. When it runs out, I'm going back to something economical.

Lexington, SC(Zone 8a)

500?? Wow, that's a lot. I wish I had a greenhouse like yours.

I was going to ask. You figure I should give our neem another shot first? I only tried it once like two years ago when I first started my collection. Now my thumb is much greener and I think it may be worth a shot. If not, I'll go with the Isotax first like you said. I convinced my wife on the price by saying, "We're protecting our 'investment.'" Hey... it worked, LOL.

Victoria, BC(Zone 8a)

I've found a product by the name of "Doktor Doom" which is supposedly effective on aphids, spider mites, whitefly and thrip. It, apparently, contains a botanical insecticide derived from the Chrysanthemum flower.

I've just begun to use it and so far, it seems to work well.

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

John, well, I stopped counting at around 500 anyway:-) I only have 3 temporary greenhouses set up for special plumies and plumies with inflo's that arrive in the fall. The majority of the 500 stay outside all winter. Yes, Neem can be effective, I think if you can be diligent about hitting all the leaves undersides and repeating the process to get the hatching eggs. You need to alternate with something else so the Isotox or Safer's Insectidal Soap or some horticultural oil might do the trick. In the past for bad infestations, I've ended up removing a lot of the infested leaves and letting them grow back while hitting the top remaining ones with Neem. I don't think I told my DH what I paid for the Forbid. I think he'd go through the roof;-)

Lexington, SC(Zone 8a)

Thanks. I'll give the Neem and Soap a few more tries. I've tried the soap alone, but perhaps spraying the combination of them will work. Plus I can get better coverage outside. Indoors I always hate spraying too much of that stuff.

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Yeah, I've heard that Palmolive and Murphy's Oil Soap work well on mites too. I also sprayed the undersides of the leaves with a good spray of water every time I water on my larger brugs in the ground too. It seems to help. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

A few more blooms open. Just didn't have time to clean up the background. I know it's not anything special, not even a name, but I'm happy with it.

It's lovely, Jackie!

Thanks Clare. I am so excited now, that I have potted up the two I got on
clearance from Lowe's late last summer. They were 4.00 each, rooted,
in 1 gallon pots. They're sending up new leaves now. Hope I get a red.
Will send pics when they bloom.

That was a good price for one-gallons, Jackie. I'm sure that, whatever they turn out to be, they will be wonderful. Can't wait to see your pics. You might consider going back to Lowe's this year to see if they have any that are in bloom that you could snag.

Oh my goodness, look how lovely they are together. Thanks for posting these, Brad, and thanks for sending them out to so many people! I can't wait for mine to bloom. You are way ahead of everyone else, I think, in your warm corner of the world. It is May Gray here soon to be followed by June Gloom. It's still cold at night too, and some inflo's are progressing very slowly. TW has been my favorite since you sent it to me the summer before last. She is so bright and cheery and a consistent bloomer. I can't wait to see both of these bloom this summer.

Longboat Key, FL

My problem lies in the fact that I have to leave them behind, next week.

There'll still be blooms left when I return, but I'll be missing the real show. It comes like a crescendo in a few short weeks.

Be well

: )

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Great blooms Dana and Brad.

Clare, can you please start a new thread for this one, a # 2? It takes
almost 5 minutes for this one to load out on my dial-up.

Thanx
Jackie

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

I was wondering about that Brad. I knew that you would be returning soon. It is so sad to miss out on those blooms, but if it makes you feel any better, I'll post pictures of mine so that you won't miss them so terribly. I'm sure others will post theirs too so you can see what joy you've spread. It is nice though that they are putting on a show for you before you leave. Maybe you need to set up an Internet camera so that you can watch them from NJ!

Jackie, I sympathize with your being on dial-up. I remember feeling like I was turning gray waiting for pages to load when I was on dial-up. I've been using high-speed DSL now for many years, and it is so much faster and better. I won't post any new pictures or lists on this thread and will start a new one when the inflo's start to bloom, but I will still feel obligated to answer any questions or comments posted on this one so you may want to "Unwatch" it so you don't get stuck waiting and waiting and waiting...

Victoria, BC(Zone 8a)

Oh WOW! I LOVE your Teresa Wilder and Brad's White "Neighbours" picture. I'm hoping to duplicate that picture one of these days!

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Clare, I will just unwatch it and wait for the new thread. I hope one
day I can have something a little faster.

Jackie

Victoria, BC(Zone 8a)

Jackie, just say NO to dialup! Hi-speed it the only way to go. You will NEVER regret it.

You will only wonder why you never switched before now.

Clare~

One has to settle. Up there I'll have sweet corn and tomatoes.

Be well

: )

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Sweet corn and home-grown tomatoes are fabulous. Have a safe trip, my friend, and be well too.

Longboat Key, FL

By the way -- I bought some Bayleton (through advice from your friend.) Hope it works. It hit only one tree -- but I sprayed them all.

Be well

: )

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

I think it is supposed to work great. You'll find out when you get back maybe?
