Thank you for spelling that out and not doing some abbreviation thing.
How long 'til daffodils?
LOL.
(The devil made me do it)
I have the Chionodoxa in the lawn, too. Especially where the old perennial bed used to be. The lawn has this blue hue to it there, lol.
Here is a nice bunch of transplants from that old bed now growing under a large Butterfly bush. The B'Bush pretty much kills everything below it. These guys are all done by the time they would get shaded out.

With the 50 MPH winds we'll get tomorrow I can't help but wonder what the daffodils will look like tomorrow/Monday.
Very nice Andy. My local forecast calls for 35 mph gusts - not too bad. Will be the first weather test for the solar panels.
Good luck on your solar panels, victor.
At least we don't have to run in the marathon in all that weather on Monday. I am afraid that 26 miles would kill me even in good weather. I had to get all my plants watered in several companies that are in buildings that line the marathon route along route 16. They will close it down for the day on Monday at 9 am. Besides there being no parking. This is a spot about 1/2 way along the route. Just before they get to the nasty hills.

My daffodils are just emerging - they are planted in an area where the sun shines from April until August - so wind is not a factor for me - however, I now realize it does result in later blooming dafs.
Just curious, Seandor, why wouldn't the wind have any effect on your daffodils, regardless of the sun?
'Cause they're not tall enough to be blown over - most are less that 1 inch tall, really just emerging.
Aha!
Congratulations Seandor! Well, we will all have daffs in May this year!
Actually, I have quite a few opening now. None of the named varieties yet. I can hardly wait for those. Interestingly, even the ones we transplanted have flowers!
My huge bag of pink daffodils aren't pink at all but white with a dark salmon trumpet. Live and learn.
None of my "pink" dafs have blossomed yet. I understand they will be more apricot than pink. I have some very fragrant dafs as well, but they are late blooming.
Your hyacynths are gorgeous - I just turned my head sideways. :-)
Thank you. The tulips are coming up now in the other bed. Spring is just popping out all over!
My daffs are in full bloom, chinondoxa are fading out, a few tulips are open, muscari too. In perennials I have hellebore & pulmonaria blooming. Wildflowers blooming are bloodroot, trout lily & dutchmen's britches. It's such a fun time of year
Bleeding Hearts are emerging, in fact, the whole garden is greening up! It really is amazing.
Dafs in bloom - named varieties still to bloom. Tulips about to bloom, as are the muscari. Hellbores took a real beating - I think only one survived. Hosta are emerging. Need to divide the monardia and the johnson's blue geranium. And dig holes for roses, and plant the perennials that arrived and are sitting on the veranda and pot up the seedlings . . . wow! lots of work to do :-)
I have had daffs for a week now. also some bicolor grape hyacinths which I seem to have put in two years ago and are only now just getting started with the blooming thing. I don't remember them from last year, however, I was in sad shape last spring so I could have missed them.
Martha
How deep did you plant the daffodils?
pirl, it was 3 yrs ago...I really don't remember. I should probably should dig them up and see if there's anything left.
They pull themselves downward each year. It's worth it to dig them up. Do you see their foliage? If so then you know they're alive.
I wouldn't think they would get crowded out by muscari.
was out finding plants this afternoon. The grass kinda took over some beds because I wasn't able to heavy duty garden last spring and summer. I had a bad year! But, I am getting better! I think one of my peonies engaged in a little hanky panky last year because I have two peony sprouts in the lawn outside the border of the bed some of my peonies are in. I am going to dig them up tomorrow and pot them and see if I can get them to blooming size. I have decided to clear out my largest bed, the south facing one next to the house. I am taking up the perennials in the border, mostly sedum and hens and chickens and the iris that has been allowed to spread unchecked for several years. I want to put some other perennials in and some different iris and more daff and other bulbs. I also have huge clumps of daylilies there too that need to be divided. But my quince has finally settled down to blooming and is very pretty at the moment with flowers all over it. I also have huge amounts of siberian iris and some runaway lily of the valley. Boy, I am gonna have me some fun.

Martha, It is wonderful that you are feeling better! Go get those gardens!
{Imagine the sound of the Mantis revving up! rrrrrr! rrrrrr!} I will. I know a lot more about perennials and their habits than when I started this garden lo these many years ago. Still has the best sun too.
Martha
Martha, this sounds pretty ambitious. you MUST be feeling better. that's great!
Dang! the computer ate my reply. Happy belated birthday, btw, gram. I feel ambitious, the sunny weather has helped. Cleaning out the sunroom and have put nearly all the hibiscus outside as well as asparagus ferns. I
Also, will be attending UMass nite at the Boston Pops Orchestra next thursday where they will be honoring Nobel Prize winner Craig Mello. The marching band, of which my daughter is a member, will be playing along with them. I can't wait!!! A family contingent will be present and will be the rowdy group in the back tables cheering her on. I can't wait!! {End of extremely proud parental brag, for now!}
Martha
Did I mention, I can't wait!!!?
Martha
