I want to present these shots to the MG group before I place them in Plantfiles. We need to have this kind of info on EVERY variety of MG...but I want to catch any possible errors before they go in the file.
This is Convolvulus sabatius ssp. mauritanicus
Seed shots for Plantfiles
Wheres that Nursrey?

Hi Beth - my feedback on the photos you posted would be as follows...
Regarding the photo here
http://pics.davesgarden.com/pics/ByndeweedBeth_1172768640_18.jpg
The Convolvulus sabatius ssp.mauritanicus can only be distinguished from Convolvulus sabatius by the much darker color of the flowers...other than the diagnostic dark blue flower color of the ssp.mauritanicus >the Convolvulus sabatius which is the light blue color has the same structure...so,until the plant flowers...there is no way to know what you have there...
The seeds here look like Convolvulus seeds as evidenced by the size, shape and bumpy sandpaper like surface
http://pics.davesgarden.com/pics/ByndeweedBeth_1172768725_839.jpg
I am unable to determine with any certainty if they are precisely Convolvulus sabatius, but I also don't see anything grossly inconsistent with Convolvulus sabatius although the seeds of Convolvulus sabatius are often described as being of a brown coloration......
The seeds in the photo here
http://pics.davesgarden.com/pics/ByndeweedBeth_1172768801_887.jpg
look to be consistent with Turbina holubii
http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/115609/index.html
Genetic analysis has clarified that this is a Turbina...
The seeds shown here
http://pics.davesgarden.com/pics/ByndeweedBeth_1172768844_147.jpg
are NOT Ipomoea horsfalliae, but look like an Ipomoea coccinea or Ipomoea hederifolia strain...
I also purchased these seeds from a German supplier and they all turned out to be exactly what the seeds look like i.e., >Ipomoea coccinea..the seeds may be a solid color or show the camoflage type of variegation depending on the terrain that the seed strain originated from...
it seems these suppliers either knowingly or unwittingly substitute whatever they think looks similar to whatever original seed that they may have had...

Ipomoea horsfalliae seeds look like Ipomoea wrightii except that Ipomoea horsfalliae have long tannish colored hairs along the side edges as shown here
http://plants.usda.gov/java/profile?symbol=IPHO
The seeds shown here
http://pics.davesgarden.com/pics/ByndeweedBeth_1172768930_271.jpg
are consistent with Merremia sibirica as per shape, enlarged axial ridge and basic coloration...although the seeds look like the surface has a more bumpy texture than what is usually seen in Merremia sibirica and the raised hilium ridge is more suggestive of a Convolvulus species...
The seeds here
http://pics.davesgarden.com/pics/ByndeweedBeth_1172768964_1.jpg
are consistent with Ipomoea pes-caprae...
The seeds here
http://pics.davesgarden.com/pics/ByndeweedBeth_1172769005_157.jpg
are very consistent with Turbina corymbosa
http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/53532/index.html
...and genetic analysis as reviewed by Prof.Daniel Austin has confirmed that these rightly belong to the Turbina genus..
Thanks for your contributions...
TTY,...
Ron
Thanks, Ron
Alot of the smaller smooth coated Convolvulus species seed is going to look alike...the Convolvuluys floridus that you posted here
http://pics.davesgarden.com/pics/ByndeweedBeth_1172854499_596.jpg
looks like what I've seen of this species >although the seeds that I've seen were a bit darker colored...
Looks close enough for the PlantFiles to me...
TTY,...
Ron
I got a few seeds of the Ipomoea horsfalliae. I'll have to post a picture. They are quite small.
