Wind?

Pewaukee, WI

Hi everyone,
I am new to Winter Sowing. I live in the midwest where it gets very windy in the spring. How can I stop my containers from blowing away?

Thanks.

I've put some in cardboard boxes (though they are getting a tad soggy with all the snow and rain) and I have others in an old laundry basket....

If you used gal milk jugs to ws in, you can tie them together. Or you could make a wood frame to go around them.

tcs1366, good one with boxes! I can use them when done in my compost/ lasagna endeavours.

Can you put your containers in a plastic laundry basket and add some heavy stones or a brick for added weight?

I hate to sound stupid, but can a gallon milk jug full of wet potting soil actually blow away? I would think they'd be too heavy for anything but a full-scale tornado.

I've seen our metal table on our deck actually lift into the air and smash the deck railing. Good suggestions everyone.

We had quite a blustery night last night -50 mph gusts - and the milk jugs stayed put, except for some that were up on a wire shelf. Guess the wind was able to get under them. It even blew a couple of clay pots off the shelf! All the containers that were down low were fine.

the mid-west if very windy too today - and its heading east.

I think we are supposed to have 45mph gusts... i peeked at my containers and they are all in place (not all are in boxes/baskets) but i think with the rain and melting snow we've had, they are now set in ice.

I do have more containers I may do today (nothing else to do) and i'll just wait a day or so to put them out... or at least to where they are protected from the howling winds.
