Just wondering how long do you keep your lights on. I am going to try to grow some hydroponically and have a 400 watt HPS light and don't know how long to keep it on. I am doing my other ones under flourescent bulbs and they are on for about 12 hours.
Inside growers? (Beth)
My initial plan was to give them lots of light (12 hours) during the first 30 days and taper it off after the plants were established to 8 hours a day to encourage blooming. In reality, however, I found that my plants did not require shorter light patterns to bloom. They bloomed enthusiastically at 12 hours a day, so I kept it right there!
If you do have an established MG that seems hesitant to bloom, you might try decreasing the light hours. I have not had a problem with this.
Beth
Thank Beth, I'll start with the 12 hours too.
The HPS light being the orange/red color encourages blooming just due to its position on the ROYGBIV spectrum.
Mine are growing in front of a huge south-facing window, so get to artificial light - it's entirely up to mother nature how much light they get!
