Paul - the only MG plant in cultivation that would produce leaves like that on a young vine is some strains of Ipomoea aquatica...but my overall impression is that the plant shown is NOT any type of Convolvulaceae...
The way the petioles are attached to the main stem is very atypical...the leaves look like they are strangely variegated...
Do you have a macro setting on your camera(?)...if the cotyledons are still attached and you can get a nice clear macro...post it...
