Are there any websites I could go to in order to read a good discussion of the pros and cons of homeschooling? I've been lurking at the GW Homeschooling site and there are a lot of really nasty people over there - unfortunately, it would appear, most of them narrow minded homeschoolers who have a "holier than thou" attitude about who they are and what they are doing.

Hi Foxglove,
The following link has many contacts for homeschooling resources and discussion boards :)

Well, gosh, Foxglove, I read and participate in that Homeschooling forum at ThatHomeSite. Perhaps you have seen me there. How would I recognize you there? (I use the same name here and there.)
I will agree that it is not the best on the net, but I don't find the participants "nasty." Here is my favorite homeschooling site

A perfect example, Clare - I lurk, I don't post - have not posted at any Gardenweb site in a long time.
I homeschooled all three of my children, my oldest son, 19, now works and goes to college for computers, my second son, 17 went back to public school in 9th grade, is graduating with honors and is going to college for engineering and my daughter, 12, has never gone to public school. None of them have ever rebelled or developed attitudes so there is a lot to be said for homeschooling.

What is the perfect example, Foxglove? Do you mean my assumption that you have posted at ThatHomeSite and my asking how I would recognize you? Is that what you mean by "nasty?" I hope you don't think my following up on this is nasty.
I have not posted at ThatHomeSite, Clare, no matter what you might think. I believe I know what you are talking about. It was reading that discussion that made me move over here and open this thread.
By the way, I was wrong in my statement that I do not post at the GW sites - I do post in one GW-related site where people can state views and their views are respected even though others may have differing opinions.
Foxglove, I believed you when you said you do not post there. I'm not trying to pin you down on that. I was just trying to understand why you would characterize a lot of users of the homeschool board at THS as nasty, narrow minded, and holier-than-thou. Yes, I did take the insulting words personally, especially after you responded to me, "A perfect example, Clare." I know there are some other users of that board here at Daves Garden, too, so you have delivered your words to the some of the people you apparently wished to avoid.
Well, unless we are going to talk about how we use gardening in homeschooling, --and indeed we do!-- or unless Dave is going to start us a homeschooling forum, then I figure I've carried this conversation as far as I ought to.
Here is another homeschool site I often recommend

Hi... I am homeschooling my 6 year old daughter. I feel safer about it. I know she is getting the attention that she needs, and believe that our local schools are too much trouble. This summer will be a great experience when we are able to start our gardens. My daughter loves to learn new stuff, and she was right along side me last year pulling weeds, spreading compost, and all the other goodies. It's a great deal of fun, and rewarding for both of us.
Many thanks to those of you who have contacted me with your support and excellent information.
Hummmm..starting to sound like That Puke Site (LOL) around here. This is Daves garden.....a nice place to visit!!
:)

Thanks Mrs. Noah - I'd just written someone else to ask about certain behaviors - your comments were helpful
