Basil seeds

"Italian Genovese type - Is this the good one for spagetti sauce?"

Oh, gosh, yes!!

I've got you covered, but I think you'd probably prefer 'Minette' to 'Spicy Globe'... I have tried several seed sources for 'Spicy Globe' and always ended up with much taller plants than expected, downright leggy, not a nice rounded shape at all... I will have to buy a couple of plants from DeBaggio some time and save seeds from them.

Thanks again for your generousity, critterologist! I have an envelope out to you. I appreciate this very much.

critter, the sasbe will be in the mail tomorrow.
The Globe basil that I grew came from a trade where someone sent me seeds that were 3 to 5 years old, but she sent me several different basils. I believe at least a few seeds grew from all but one pack.
The Spicy Globe made the cutest plants about 8 to 10 inches high. I grew extra of each basil and took them to work, of course they all disappeared, but several people came back later in the summer and said they really enjoyed the look and taste of the spicy globe.

UniQue - you really got some good deals on those containers and plant stand.

toofew, the taste on the 'Spicy Globe' that I grew out (from commercial seed shared in a trade) should be similar to what you remember, but these plants grew tall (14-18 inches) and were not at all globe shaped. You can see what you think of them...

The main reason I'll grow out a few plants of this strain of 'Spicy Globe' again is that Japanese Beetles seem to prize it above all other plants, so it makes a useful trap crop... I filled a planter with it and sprayed it with Sevin, and that did a good job of protecting the other basils and plants on my deck... needless to say, I didn't eat any of the basil that had been sprayed!

Thanks TooFew. I thought that was an excellent deal myself. I'm really pleased so far with the way things are growing in there. My only problem is leaning down and forgetting it's there. At least it's plastic, so when I bonk my head, it doesn't hurt too bad! HAHAHAHA

I took another photo today from a different angle.

toofew & Bdigging, your SASBEs went out today...

UniQueT, I think I dropped the ball, just sent you Dmail -- and I'll have your seeds out shortly. I'm sorry... there have been lots of seeds coming and going around here, and I got a little disorganized last week.

Wineaux, I just got your SASBE, should have it turned around in a day or two.

I'd like to mention that with all the seeds I've been sending out, I am not trying to keep track of outstanding SASBE's at this point. If you were going to send me a SASBE and have not done so, you run the risk that I will be out of trade packets by the time your BE arrives. If there are any questions or confusions, please Dmail me.

I scrolled up to see if I could figure out the status of this offer... Sheeba, I'm not sure if I've seen a SASBE from you, and I'm pretty sure I haven't recieved one from creativedecor... Otherwise, I think everybody not just mentioned above should have their seeds. If not, please let me know!

:-)

critter, can't thank you enough! I got my seeds on Sat. My familly will thank you too when they eat my good cookin with the basil. :o)
I will get them planted soon. Oh, and you sent me both the Spicy globe and the Minette, it will be fun to compare the two.

:-) I hope they do well for you, and I know you'll enjoy having an assortment to play with. The flavor of 'Spicy Globe' from those seeds is fine, so I included it for you to try -- it's just its habit that doesn't seem "right" to me.
