I was taking down a bush that had one of those cocoons that was watching for two years. I opened it up and it was a dry larve...I was very disappointed. It took me a lot of time to open it as I didn't want to hurt whatever was in it, and the case was very hard. I am really happy to finally know what that cocoon was. Thanks so much for posting it!

These nests/coocoons are currently in our young boab/bottle tree in the front garden. The larger ones are at least 24cms long. My husband removed one; there was a small green spider, and an approximately 20 cent size group of dry eggs/larvae. Is this a black/white moth & is it a pest, or is it something more ominous? There was a wasp circling around the tree - looking for potential food? There are small holes in the nest like something has crawled in or out. We have had high rainfall during the last two months, maybe that has attributed in some way. I anxiously await your response
Hope you can assist

Those look to me like green ant nests!
