Go for it Chantell, I was about 45 when I finally got my certification. It was something I was always interested in but didn't have the time or money for it. I had a full time job, 4 kids and a barn full of horses & ponies. When the twins went to college we made the very hard decision to find new homes for the horses and that decision opened up new and exciting avenues for my life path.

rcn48 -- what booths are you referring to?
happy, sorry - the "booths" are at the Annual Garden Fair at Blandy Experimental Farm (The Virginia State Arboretum) - there's more information if you click on our website. It's a great Fair, held every Mother's Day weekend and has been growing every year - last year they had 87 booths and alot of the customers complained it was too big! Seemed like there was alot of repetition in what the vendors were offering, i.e. huge flowering hanging baskets of petunias, etc. of the sort that you could pick up at your local Walmart. Always used to be that there were some unique, albeit small, vendors with unusual selections of plants but seems like some of these vendors selling annuals have pushed them out. Hopefully the Arboretum will be a little more selective in who they invite to exhibit this year and avoid the repetition.
HollyAnn, my hat's off to you! I'm too much of a chicken for diving - snorkeling's more my speed :)
Catching up here, my mother used to make me eggs when I was sick too - either boiled with toast or poached eggs on toast, "comfort food" :) Of course, she also used to give me a tablespoon of melted Vicks Vaporub and a little sugar to quiet down a cough!! Never sure where that one came from - LOL
Debbie
Wow Debbie - I have never heard of taking the Vaporub internally. Very interesting. Must not have been too lethal, you are still with us.
If you don't mind saying, what do you specialize in Debbie?
Have a great day everyone.
Ruby
HollyAnnS - thank you...that most certainly is my intention!!!
Oh Debbie - Vaporub orally? Not sure I'd be able to stomach that..then again I can remember a mixture of whiskey/honey/lemon juice and something else given for cough....*gag*

Chantell, Today was my day to volunteer at the Aquarium. I had a great time spent about 1 hr in the Ocean Realm tank first we did a dive show then cleaned the windows and waved at the kids.
Chantell - We had same remedy growing up. I agree with yuck.
Holly, how you spent yesterday sounds like a lot of fun. As a child I was big in to swimming. Due to lack of any other type of physical activity, I find myself pretty weak. I haven't tempted fate by being in any dangerous water situation for many years now. All, of this sounds so glorious though. I admire you for doing it. I am enjoying living vicariously as a diver. ha-ha
Please continue to share as you take more dives and volunteer services. Do you have any more good pictures to share?
Ruby
LOL, I always get alot of weird responses and raised eyebrows when I mention the Vicks concoction - I'll have to ask my mother some day how she ever came up with that one!
Ruby, you have mail :)
I know that I used to see my mother in law take Vick's and rub all over her face and chest. I am not sure how she dealt with what had to have burned the eyes. She swore by it. It would be interesting to see what the answer your mom gives Deb.

Holly - what fun!!! That's the only time I used the scuba stuff (now that I think about it - it reminds me of Tom Sawyer and the whole getting folks to paint that fence for him...LOL) When my dad ran a swim club and needed the deep end cleaned he'd tell me I could use his scuba stuff while cleaning the deep end of the pool...LOL. Where were the child labor laws then, I ask you?!!!
Sounds like we had similar childhoods. I swam in the 8 and under division on two swim teams. Penbrook Pool (Community Pool) in the summer and YWCA in the winter. Pretty much lived at the pool both Summer and Winter for years. Then I found out about “boys”. Bye Bye Swim teams. ;}
Plenty of boys to be found at the pool each day - esp. the life guards...me and my "big" 5th and 6th grade self! LOL
Oh gosh - You two are sure stirring up some memories. Old ones in my case. ha-ha Oh yeah Chantell, I am like you in that I was boy watching while at the pool. And yeah, Tom Sawyer was on to something there with the painting....so cute.
Ya'll have a great weekend.
Ruby
