Janett - Glad(!) to see you back on board...

TTY,...

Ron

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks Ron,
I suppose this plant produces seed?

Emma

Shepherd, TX(Zone 8b)

Wow! Is this the one that you sent me cuttings of?

Netcong, NJ(Zone 5b)

Emma - the plant should produce seeds...but if the cuttings are all from the same exact plant >it might have a degree of self-infertility which might prevent successful selfing >therefore it may require more than a clonal source for successful fertilization...

TTY,...

Ron

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8a)

Hi Stacey,
Yes, this is it!
Did yours survive?

I still have 2 plants that are still alive left after I shared a few others.
One, I'm getting ready to send to a zone 10a FLORIDA.
Hopefully this plant will grow like crazy there and we will see better how it performs.

Also, I'm going to put my other in the ground this year and see what it will do, then - of course, will need to dig it back up at the end of our season to over-winter.

Ron,
Thanks!
Yes, all from the same plant.
Guess I'll need to go back to Acapulco and find another one *-*

Emma

Lee's Summit, MO(Zone 6a)

Go back and get all of US some seeds - what a beauty!

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8a)

Kay, I'd LOVE to be able to do that.
AND,
if this plant in my photos does produce seeds, they should be ready about now.

Emma

Lakeland, FL(Zone 9b)

Do you know who might be selling seeds for it?

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8a)

Hey Paul,

If you find seeds, you will be the most popular guy on the Block . . .
Ok, the most popular guy around *-*

You can RARELY, if ever, find species of the series Arborescentes.
So far as we have learned, this is the onlys species in the USA.
[Did I say that right Ron?]

This is one of the reasons that I'm sending one of my two plants to a much warmer climate.
Hopefully, this plant will produce well enough there to get more plants from cuttings and/or seeds if it will produce seeds.

I'm trying my best to keep them alive in my much too cool zone 8aTX for this species.

If anyone else is growing this we would LOVE to get feedback on how it produces for you,
and see your photos.

Emma

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

I would love to try some cuttings this summer. I keep my tender ones in the greenhouse over winter.
Beth

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8a)

Hi Beth,

My hope is to get as many plants to as many people as I can, so I am very pleased to share with you. I am only hoping that by me planting mine in the ground it willl take off much faster and grow enough to even get cuttings -
and even better is that the person that I'm sending the plant to in Florida will have more success than myself.

I'm even 'thinking' about donating my last plant to SFA Mast Arboretum in Nacogdoches, but haven't yet decided on that. They grow some very rare and exotic plants. I at least want to try mine in the ground first.
However, SFA does have the facilities to 'guard' something like this plant and see that it grows to its potential.
Remembering that this Exotic Vine/Tree came from a zone 11 Climate where the temps are the SAME all year around. Rarely do they even have cool nights. So, this is what it is going to take to get this guy to take off. It must be really tough because it is hanging in there for me.

We will see how they both do....

Emma

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Emma, That's drop dead gorgeous. What sets it apart from other white's is that
dark eye. Absolutely striking.

Jackie

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8a)

Hi Jackie,

Yes, it is a true *traffic stopper* . . .
Sure stopped me when I saw it.

Emma

Mesilla Park, NM

A.

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8a)

Thank you Antoionette,
This is the cutting that I sent to you.
Were you able to revive it?
Seems like you weren't notified and it sat in your post office for a few days.

Emma

Andalusia, AL(Zone 8b)

Awesome MG Emma.

Mesilla Park, NM

Yes, it was there for a week before they left a card... I tried but it was too far gone, I cut and cut till I only had about 1 inch. It just kept drying out, finally there was nothing but about one inch dried stick. The PO sometimes get's me PO'd..lol hopefully yours will get some pods on it. Thanks for sending it to me though.

A.

edited to say: I even bought that bubbler pump and it still did not work. Did you try out the fish tank pump?

Thank you jannich . . .

Yes, Antoinette, that is my hope that these two plants will grow huge and healthy so there are plenty of cuttings and/or seeds to share.

Emma

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

Wow beautiful!!

Lakeland, FL(Zone 9b)

Am i right in thinking that this Mg is also a MG Tree?

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8a)

As I understand it, this 'can' be a tree, but I am not qualified to give you the proper answer.

Emma

Lakeland, FL(Zone 9b)

thanks

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 4a)

Oooooooooooooh! That is gorgeous, Emma!! Whenever you have any extra rooted cuttings or seeds, I would luv to grow it. I luv the color in the throat.
:) Donna

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks Donna,
Well, there is always Tissue Culture!

Emma

(Zone 7a)

I once read somewhere that some plants have actually fooled biologists into thinking that different stages of their development represented distinctly different species - I believe this happened with one euonymous thought to be around 24 different species. Ivy can take many years to flower, but if you propage cuttings from the flowering part, you get "tree" ivy - self-supporting shrub that dependably blooms from the get-go, unlike the vine it came from.

So, I'm looking at this possible tree morning glory and I realize there's still a lot to learn about it, but now that the question has occurred to me, Ron, do you know of any morning glories that differ so much from one developmental stage to another that when a given stage is propagated, the offspring behave like only that particular stage of the parent?

Janet - wonderful to see you back - would like to know how things are going with you, too.

Emma, this flower is a dream.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

CAn you tell us where you stayed................I don't even like to fly and might make a quick trip to 'Pulco for this beauty....

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8a)

Hey bettygail!

Stayed at the Las Brisas.
Let me know when you are ready to go and I'll tell you how to get to the plant and how to smuggle them out....shhhh!

Actually, as we were heading for the airport to leave, I did see another group growing and of course, there was no way I had the time to check those out. We were still in the mountains as I recall and not on the flatland.

I'm sure there are all kinds of awesome plants just like these hidden away in their jungle-type mountains. What fun that would be to go scouting around, but only if they make snake proof boots to wear....lol

Emma

Shepherd, TX(Zone 8b)

Hey Emma,

No my cuttings didn't make it. Those were the one's the cats knocked over in the greenhouse. :-((

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8a)

So sorry that everyone lost their cuttings.
Only other person I sent one to was Cat and I haven't asked her if her cutting survived.

Emma

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8a)

Here is photo of one of my Ipomoea wolcottiana plants that I thought I had lost.
Today it is on the way to its new home in SUNNY FLORIDA.

Hopefully, this baby will take off and grow and bloom like crazy so others will be able to enjoy this amazing Morning Glory.

AND hopefully before long, we will be able to see how it is growing in Florida. . .
