Boulder Fountain

Alpena, MI(Zone 4b)

I'm not sure that this is the best place to post this question, but I couldn't decide between here, garden art, or water gardens.

I'm thinking about replacing my birdbath with a birdbath/fountain made from a boulder. I got the idea from a holy water font at a local church. It's a big boulder that has had the top hollowed out to form a shallow dish. Water is pumped up into the dish through a hole in the bottom of the dish. The water then flows through a trough and over the side into a small pool.

My version would be a smaller boulder because I'm going to have to somehow haul it back there by hand. Instead of a pool at the bottom, I'm thinking about a pondless type of thing filled with rocks.

Questions:
Do you think this will look right in place of the birdbath in this picture? The next picture is to show the stone wall to the right of the rock.
How large will the boulder need to be to look in scale?
Does anyone know if I can take a glacial sort of fieldstone and carve out a birdbath with a grinder?
What type of person do I call to drill a hole through a rock?
