CLOSED: Someone's kids...should I keep them?

I found these pods '?' on a lavender stem while taking care of some spring pruning last week. I've lived with lavender plants long enough to know that these aren't seeds.

I didn't clip the stem because I need to know a few things first:
--What are they, (or what will they become?)
--What will they eat -- plants, or the bugs that eat plants?
--Will they become pests?

In short, should I keep them or clip the stem and get rid of them before they have a chance to become a problem?

They look like katydid eggs

Thank you, Claypa, that was spot on. I knew we had common crickets here but I don't believe I've seen a katydid; so what I read of them is clearly true, they're good at hiding themselves.
