Do you have any of these seeds to trade? Let me know what you want in return.
Also what is the Common Name for this Bright Yellow MG. Thanks.
Looking for Bright Yellow Morning Glory
Oh, that is beautiful!
I have not grown these but looking for seeds.
Hi MGJapan . . .
Welcome to Daves!
I would like for you to know that Daves has a “Morning Glory” Forum
http://davesgarden.com/forums/f/floramanana/all/
and we welcome you to join us in learning and discussing different Morning Glory species and cultivars.
I am a serious Morning Glory Lover and Grower, and am still trying to learn as much as I can.
I am very curious about your interest in learning more about Morning Glory cultivars in English? Are you wanting to know about ‘Western’ Morning Glories, or the new cultivars now being developed in the USA?
The Yellow Photo you have posted is Ipomoea ochracea and I have the Yellow Ipomoea ochracea seeds that you are seeking and will be happy to share them with you. Additionally, I also have MANY other RARE Convolvulaceae (The Morning Glory Family) seeds.
This year I will be growing many of my RARE seeds, as well as Japanese Morning Glory seeds that I have purchased from Japan in my first crop.
D-Mail me and let me know what you are looking for and I will share with you anything that I have….
Thanks so much,
Emma
PS: And re: Yoroshiku onegaishimasu . . . “It is also good to meet you”.
Oh Emma hi, we know you in Japan. Our english conversation teacher decided about using this site in class discussion. He ask many questions about japanese morning glory so we made new class about it. We enjoy about reading morning glory in english but very difficult. Now our class is in session and we get information about some plants for tonight discussion. Teacher said he will contact you. I hope we can get yellow morning glory. thank you very much.
MGJapan - Welcome(!)...
Please enjoy what we have to offer in photos and information...
What school level are you...primary school(?)...High School(?)...college(?)
Ipomoea ochracea as listed in the PlantFiles
http://davesgarden.com/pf/adv_search.php?Search=Click+here+to+search+for+plants
Two varieties are known:
Ipomoea ochracea (Lindl.) G. Don var. ochracea (Lindl.) G. Don [superfluous autonym] - Yellow Fence Morning-glory
Ipomoea ochracea var. curtisii (House) Stearn - African White Morning-glory or White Fence morning-glory
The African Yellow Morning Glory often flowers during the Winter here in the warmest parts of the US...We are trying different strains from different parts of the world in the hope of locating a strain that will flower earlier...an earlier flowering strain will allow people who live in cooler climates, who are growing Ipomoea ochracea to also enjoy the blooms...
What Climate zone are you in ?...if you are in a very warm zone it will flower for you during the winter, but if your climate has a cold winter, then it may only flower inside or in a greenhouse...
Some of the yellow flowered species with the smaller flowers will flower during the summer in cooler zones...
Some other MG's with yellow flowers include the following
Calystegia and Convolvulus species with yellowish flowers

Ron, thank you very much for being so kind. That is a lot of information and it will be put to good use. I'm the administrator of the group and will contact you in D-mail after the weekend when things slow down.
cheers
I hope mine will come back from the root this year. Ron sent me some seeds last year but late in the year so mine did not have time to bloom. I hope it comes back.
Mine froze back as well, and never bloomed last year, although it put out vines everywhere. :-( Is this species one that takes two years to bloom?
I have some of those Seeds
Hello MGJapan AND 'Teacher'...
I am honored that you already know me in Japan. I am still in the learning stage and am always fascinated with all there is to know about the beautiful Morning Glory species.
We in America love sharing our knowledge with everyone, as you will soon learn.
Please let us know when we can help with 'anything', and again 'Welcome'.
Also, as you will soon learn, Ron is a WEALTH OF INFORMATION and can answer ANY question that you ask about Morning Glories. He too is a GREAT TEACHER!
Stacey,
Yep, takes two years to bloom depending on the climate grown.
As you probably know, this vine blooms like crazy for Cat in Deep South Texas in her Zone 9.
Karen,
Don't count on your vines coming back. In our zone you need to grow in containers so they can be over-wintered.
phicks,
You should be able to get some great blooms in your climate. Be sure to let us know how they do and ESPECIALLY when you get your first blooms.
Emma
i have the African MG growing
I`m in 8b. I looked at it and it is not coming back. I didn`t know that beforehand. Maybe I`ll try again later.
Well darn, mine probably won't come back either! :-(( I guess I need to put mine in a pot and just cut it back when I bring it in for the winter. Mine went everywhere...I had to keep draping it over the fence to keep it from taking off into the woods!
Stacey, I too had to learn the hard way. First year I had some grand vines with zero blooms.
Only to learn they were dead the following spring. I knew they were a Perennial and just 'assumed' they would be hardy in my zone. Then, the next year planted mine in a container.
This year, I need to move them to larger containers this spring.
Also, if I'm not mistaken, cuttings of I. ochracea will root easily in water.
I did get some to root year before last, but didn't try it last year.
Emma
Hi it's 7:50 am sunday morning and just checking in. Emma thanks for the information. Oh by the way Cat is sending us some yellow morning glory seeds. Strange that non are available in Japan. Anyway this is a great site. I have a busy schedule today and will be online later tonight.
You are welcome MGJapan and we will look forward to hearing back from you.
Emma
Hi there,
Welcome to Dave's.. met you on the ID forum.. I'm also just learning about Morning Glories and Ron is a great teacher.. so is Emma.. everyone here is really helpful to each other and I know you will love it here.
A.
Gourd hello and thanks for pointing us in the right direction.
Yes we are happy to have join this site. WOW, Lots of information. Hmmmmmmmm.
Stacey, If you decide to grow it in a container, don't cut it back when you bring it in
for the winter. That's when it wants to bloom,
very late in the yr. If you cut it back, might be cutting off any would be blooms.
Something I noticed about my ochracea this past summer: In late Aug or early Sept,
I saw little tiny nubs and thought those must be buds. I knew it was pot bound
again but didn't have the time to pot it up another size. When I finally did repot, here came
the buds, growing larger every day. If I had repotted by 1st of Aug, I could have had blooms
much earlier, plenty of bees around then and I might have had lots of seeds as my reward.
My ochracea bloomed the 1st yr from seed, Dec of 05, it was in the ghouse. I had
about 10 blooms or so, no seeds.
My ochracea has a huge root system, already in a 5 gallon pot and begging for
a larger one. .
Jackie
Thanks Jackie,
I was going to write Stacey and/or edit my post as I left out that IMPORTANT information about NOT cutting her vine back when she moved it for the winter.
Great info that you've added too.
Emma
I will take note of this information for my second try on this one. :)
Thanx Emma, Hoping that my info will help others
Jackie
My ochracea has been blooming and setting seed all winter and is still blooming. I think it would have done better is a sunnier location as it is in shade most of the day due to the neighbor's tree on the other side of the fence. I have another blooming one in a pot and will plant in on a shadier fence next month.
Hi Jan - Good to know that the MG's are still persevering...
I also am interested in any new varieties under cultivation here and abroad. I just love them!
Hi Gardener2005,
Don't give up on your ochracea. I have one on my patio that looked dead, but it sprouted leaves a few weeks ago. So maybe yours just needs a little more time to come out of hibernation.
Mark
It looked so dead I almost wrote R.I.P. on the tag but I left it there anyways...just in case. :)
MGJapan,
Glad to see you on this forum. You can't get any better than having Emma and Ron to share information and seeds with.
Your package went out this week along with some Texas Bluebonnets :o)
The Yellow Morning Glory (ipomoea ochracea) starts blooming out in south Texas around the fall season (September-October and continues to bloom up until about May). We had some bouts of cold weather that damaged the leaves and ruined many of the green seed pods. The vines are sprouting new leaves but I don't think it will put out as many flowers and seeds as last year.
Give them plenty of sun and if you can plant them in the ground instead of a pot they will do so much better. They will freeze in colder temps so if you can bring them inside for protection that would help. Mine froze back in 2004 but grew back :o)
~ Cat
Thank you Cat,
What a nice thing to say!
Hope to talk to you soon,
Emma
The Ipomoea obscura can show a maroon-like pigmentation to the stems and leaf perimeter when it is perfectly healthy although any type of combination of stressors e.g., water, heat, cold and sun induced stress may initiate an increase in the amount of visible purple pigmentation...additionally increased visible pigmentation is also commonly seen as the plant is winding down it's activity cycle for the season often accompanied by some loss of chlorophyll...
TTY,...
Ron
We received yellow Ipomoea ochracea seeds today from USA Cat. Wow she added a packs of Texas Bluebonnet seeds from Burpee Co to my surprise. Now the only problem is this pack of Bluebonnet seeds will be devided between 7 people. Just kidding not a problem. That will be fun next saturday as Japanese like getting gifts. This gift will be special in that it`s an original flower from USA. Thank you Cat. You can expect something in return. It`s the Japanese way.
That was great of you Cat. I'm just starting to bring in a few pods now. They are really slow ripening.
I'm currently looking to trade for these seeds. I found the plant Hawaiian wood rose Ipomoea (Merremia) being sold here and would like to have seeds too. If you want to trade let me know what you want for them.
http://davesgarden.com/pf/showimage/73052/
I have them.
Will add to your package....
Emma
Great, thanks Emma. I'll let you know when the new seeds arrive and send to you. TTYL
Ok, Thanks MGJ . . .
Just planted some fresh seeds last week and have a few already sprouting. They really do well when they're fresh.
