You guys are gona love this!
What would you say if I told you that I have my very 1st blossom, only 4 months after germination?
Stay tuned, Hee,hee,heeee!
Tales from the wacky side! A tale of a seedling gone awry..
Weirdness abounds! What is this variety?
My own hybrid, short maroon unknown x short pink unknown.
For some reason this all reminds me of Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Just be careful, Intercessor. Watch your back....
That 'pod parent' looks mighty strange.... fasciated, in fact. I suspect an alien invasion going on here!
How very strange!
Hmm, even the bulb is twinned, it looks to be in a hurry to do something!
What have you been feeding it?
Maybe it's one of those Lily Trees!
Got watered about once a week with diluted water soluble fert. Nothing special. There is another seedling from the same cross that looks supiscious, although it may just be a big leaf coming out. This second one I put aside for special care becuase it was growing so many more leaves than the rest. It doesn't look nearly as strange as the one above. If it is a leaf it isn't coming out on a stem that I can see. It looks more like it is protruding from a very wide area from the bulb surface.

Ooooooooooh-eeeeeeeeeee-ooooooooooh!
{pic of that "scream guy" by Munch}
Keep us posted as it grows. (With more pics please.) I'll bet we can get an answer from Neil Anderson when he comes to speak at our Lily Society education seminar March 10.
In your pics you can't really see what the "stigma" looks like. But to me, what you have labeled stamen looks a lot like a pistol to me with its three part stigma.
I'm with Beak: maybe it is a lily tree. (Giggle)
I didn't want to move it around to much and break anything. The part I have labeled as Stigma looked like it had the wavy edges and the stamen was more of a solid ovalish mass. We shall see if it grows and survives.
Hmmmm, maybe I can pollinate it in a couple weeks? :*O
I think Beak and Lefty are right ~ it's an alien trying to mesmerize us with it's bloom in while it silently morphs into a lily tree / shrub / bicycle stand.
Can't you just see the little children being strangely drawn to our gardens, if only to park their bikes.......
Andrew, you have convinced me. I am going to get my immediate germinating Lilium seeds started under lights. Right after the St. Paul Home and Garden show where I am speaking, and after our Rock Garden Society's banquet that I am involved with, and the Minneapolis Home and Garden show (participate there too), and after I get my winter sowing done, and well, at least I'll get them going for the cold frame . . . once I set that up . . .
Maybe I could market these as Insta Lily Ž :*) At least a dwarf lily. LOL
Leftwood sounds like a schedule. Activity is always good in the winter. Anything interesting at the garden shows? The Madison show didn't have very many classes and they were $40+ a person... Unless that is standard?
This is the first time I will be setting foot in the St. Paul Home and Patio show. Don't really have a clue as to what it is like. Definitely smaller than the Minneapolis one. Seminars at both are free, but there is an admission fee. They are all geared for the casual gardener/homeowner.

The classes at the Madison Garden Expo were $40? Oh you must mean the workshops where they give you supplies and teach you a skill, like gourd art and that sort of thing. There were free teaching seminars that went on each day, all day, seems like they were a hour or two each, you just drop in , listen and stay as long as you cared to for the cost of admission . The workshops cost, depending on what supplies are used, that's been my experience.
You need to finish the name game here:
Bizarro . . . the Magnificent?
No, No
Bizarro the Lilificent
Frank(ly) Bizarro?
Bizarro the First?
Umm, I'm not very good at this.
Lilium nec-plus-ultra-praecox 'Bizzarine' ?
Yes, yes
An appropriate Latin name must be assigned to this unique plant. To begin with, apparently I misspelled bizarro :*)
Although I could keep it Bizzaro and (TM) it.
Nice start raydio, I'll have to toss that one around for awhile. LOL.
Aside from the naming schema, which it appears I have a third seedling on the way, Any thoughts as to what may be happening to the first seedling?
Does it appear that seedling #2 is a flower bud? I think it sort of looks like one...
Gotta go keep my daughter from tasting the hard wood floor, :*(
Later,
Andrew

This is one of the most interesting threads I've seen! I hope Bizzaro lives :) Maybe he's just losing his bloom because he's so young?
The Insta LilyŽ idea is good too.
Everyones remarks/jabs about the Lily Trees are hilarious!
Steven
Now there's one: Lilium 'Bizarro Lives!'
(Except I don't think an exclamation point is allowable under ICNCP rules.)
Methinks there is a genetic flaw and you may need to change that name to L Bizarro Died. However, where there is life, there is hope.
Bite your tongue, Beaker!
Shame, shame I say, on anyone with such thoughts! LOL
Quick update,
Biz#1 flower parts dried up, however the bulb is growing new leaf. This is one that I will pay special attention to.
Biz#2 pod thing has extended but it is difficult to see if there is anything inside yet. I don't want to separate the leaves/petals yet.
I have another seedling doing the pod thing.... strange.

Very cool, Andrew.
Hey what ever happened to Bizz (the laundry detergent)? [giggle]

Uhh.... it's good for cleaning skulls? I suppose that's useful for those with dirty minds.

Apparently I missed a ) at the end of the link...
Seedling #2 The body snatcher pod hasn't grown much, but it is ripening. The color has lightened and the petal like structure is loosening up. It has not been apparent if this pod had any structures inside, but today I was able to see "something". My camera can't focus that close though. This is more like a flower bud than #1, though this one still came directly from the bulb and appears to have only 3 petal like structures.
