Chamaecyparis thyoides seedlings

Atmore, AL(Zone 8b)

I have a couple of these growing in peat pots that I need to find a spot for. I know if they grow near hardwoods they will become spindly looking, but if I plant them near some young pines (filtered sunlight) will they have a full conical shape?

Hi Escambia,

Good the seed planting was successful!

I fear they'd be much the same under pines as under broadleaf trees. They grow a lot more slowly than (most) pines, so wouldn't be able to keep their heads in the sun.

That's what I was afraid of. I don't have many places left with no trees planted. I'll just grow them in containers and probably give them as gifts.
