scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

People say the thread is getting too long for dial up, so here is a new one.

Here is KayJones with her 1949 seedlings to start it off!

Well, what a nice compliment - THANKS! The kodoos go to Beth for trusting me to grow the seeds out and GOD for giving me the love and talent to grow plants.

I`m exited about seeing this. I love the picture. I`m being optimistic that more will sprout and make it. I`m very happy and seeing this makes feel like the seeds I`m saving for spring have hope.

Shepherd, TX(Zone 8b)

I just can't wait to see what color they're going to be!

Let's also pray the 1949 MGs makes a lot of seeds or at least enough for everyone to have 1 seed each!

Where did you find 1949 seeds? :) I could expect to find something like that at my dad's house, he never throws anything away!LOL When I went to visit him for Christmas I found a pack of MG and zinnia seeds from 1997 and I have started them. Thanks for sharing the pics and your sweet face too!

The 1949 seeds came from an old estate in the midwest....probably somebody just like your dad!

This is an interesting thread, a couple of years ago, my mom's friend passed away and the lady's son gave my mom some things and let her pick stuff before he sold everything. Well, my mom only picked a couple of thing, but in the stuff she got, she picked a bag with several seed packets from 1976.. lots of veggie types and a couple of flowers, anyway...

I sowed the tomato seeds last week, none have come up yet.. I forgot to soak them, so will try agian.

The seeds were 39 cents a pack.. don't we wish that was the price today..

Kay, you've done a great job reviving those seeds. Hope you get great blooms.. and you were the inspiration for my tomato seeds..lol.

Well, as I have said before, the method I use for pre-germinating seeds works SO WELL! I used to do the baggie/damp paper towel method, but didn't like the slimey mold, so switched to my bean sprouters and LOVE them!

Greenwich, OH

Kay Good! Luck with those M.G.Post a photo of the blooms later.

Merrimac, WI(Zone 4b)

How are they?

Charlevoix, MI(Zone 4b)

Kay, I've never used a bean sprouter for anything. Do you just put the MG seeds in it like you would any other?

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Kay what's a bean spouter?

kay..you mean like the alfalfa seed sprouters or the mung bean sprouters?

I just re-potted my '49 seeds into a quart container and so far, so good!

Here is a search for 'bean sprouters' - I have three of the third image over. I put the seeds into the sprouter, pour water/peroxide into the fill holes per directions, and place the sprouter on the floor register.

Several months back, there were quite a few "vintage seed" packages listed on EBAY that were quite old; and of course they sold very well.

hi kay...picked up a bean sprouter at goodwill they had new ones in boxes donated by the nearby hardware store that didnt sell on their shelves apparently , for 5.99.

How are the 1949 glories doing? Any new photos?

Lee's Summit, MO(Zone 6a)

The '49'ers are doing well - vining really fast. I will try to remember to get a picture tomorrow.

Northwest, OH(Zone 5b)

Woo hoooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mine have done nothing. :-(

(Zone 6a)

Yay! Can't wait for the pics!

Lee's Summit, MO(Zone 6a)

Sorry, but husband was ill most of today and didn't feel like taking pictures.

(Zone 6a)

That's ok :) I didn't notice the date, I thought that post was from today.

KayJones,
How are the 1949's doing and can you update us?

I have been following Kay's threads about her DH, but didn't make the connection to this thread until I read ByndeweedBeth's post.

Sorry to hear that!

Beth,

How is the 1949 vine going?

Joseph

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

KayJones and phicks were the only ones to get these going. Paul's sort of fizzled and died, and KayJones lost hers when she put them outside. I only kept a few seeds myself and decided to try germinating them the natural way, in a pot of soil. I put them in a few weeks ago and so far none have popped their heads up.

I hope life is in some of them, Beth. For some reason I had 75 threads in my thread watcher that had no new messages in them today. So I was going down the list to get them updated. Did this happen with you too?

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

Yes, I think I had every single thread I ever replied to on my screen this morning!

To quote Bill, the cat: "ACK ACK ACK" LOL

Baton Rouge area, LA(Zone 8b)

My seeds did not produce anything. One attempted to sprout but was unable to grow. The others composted immediately. Karen

Hope this link works as it explains the problem with thread watcher this morning...

Bill, the cat..........man it's been a looong time since I've heard that.

Thanks you guys, giga ditto. The wind, the mold, the dark side.! The fools that think they are selling seed starting media! I am working on something that kills all micro stuff, as a spray. Don't use Jiffy seed starter, except to make compost.! Frank
