Grandpa Ott's MG

Perris, CA(Zone 9a)

Hi! Everybody!! I would like to start some Grandpa Ott's MG seeds but I understand they need stratifying. I have seen on various websites on google different ways to do this. Does anyone have a special way of doing this? This is the first year since 2004 that I have tried sowing seeds and I am not familiar with the ins and outs. I have five or six kinds of plants that need stratifying and I am lost completely. When I planted Winter Cassia (cassia bicapusularis), I poured hot boiling water on the seeds and let them soak for twenty-four hours. I had a high germination rate of these plants. Would the same thing work on Grandpa Ott's? My oldest daughter in Utah said just to plant them without stratifying and while it will mean less seeds germinating, I only need two or three seedlings of this MG. What do you think? I am planting a lot of blue and purple flowering plants because I hope to help the bee population in our area which is dwindling. Do Grandpa Ott's MGs further this?

Any feedback would be appreciated...

Thanks,

Chuck

It doesn't need stratifying or nicking the seed, unless you want to start it a few weeks early. I sowed mine plain and had a wonderful blooming season...... don't let other people get yoou up tight. Frank

I think Grandpa Ott's MG will wake up just as Frank advises, with no special treatment. Nick seed coat, soak a little in water, plant 'em in warm soil near a trellis and you are off to the races!

Thanks, Frank and Joseph,

I will try this.

Thanks again,
