Bald cypress 'Peve minaret'

Selma, NC(Zone 7b)

Our local Master Gardening program is offering these for sale. The listing says they are locally grown seedlings. Does this dwarf form come true from seed? I'm interested for the price but sceptical.

Taxodium distichum 'Peve Minaret' will be a grafted or budded plant. Seedlings, by definition, will not be 'Peve Minaret' even if they show similar dwarf characteristics.

Ask to see the parent plants from which the seed (and thus the seedlings) derived. Skepticism is warranted. Dwarf seedlings may be very interesting things to trial and grow out. You might be able to select your own clone and name it.

Thanks SP! I love Bald cypress but I would definately have to plant a dwarf here. Besides the size constraints I live in a subdivision where we all have septic tanks and leach fields. Am I correct in thinking this tree is one that would be a problem near the drain fields?

Also bear in mind that it is a long-lived species, and even a slow-growing 'dwarf' will eventually get rather large.

I emailed them this morning and they checked for me. The plants are grafted so I get to buy at least one- they also have 7 gal Parrotias.

Hooray!

Ask them if the Parrotia are limbed up already, or if Scott has to come visit.

Have some fun!
