I just have to tell you this.I went to my smoking cessation group this morning, and my Carbon Monoxide reading was NIL ... big fat zero. This is day 8 for me, and my start reading was 35 !!!!
Any other quitters got anything to report ?
P.S I really hope people don't mind these stop smoking threads.....it's so important to me to hear from other quitters.

Smoking .........Quitters Update.
nothing to report, except YOU GO GIRL!!!
I know everyone feels different when they quit but I think generally the timelines are the same so I would like to share with you this encouragement. I have been smoke free exactly 7 months tomorrow. It started to get considerably easier after day 4. No more headaches or shakes. No more nausea or dizziness. After day 14 I could go hours without an urge to smoke although I still felt like I had lost a friend. After day 30 I only missed it when I saw other people smoking. It didn't come to mind unless it was prompted. These wern't urges anymore they were feelings of remorse. The changes since then have been subtle but somewhere between 1 month and 7 months I no longer miss smoking, I never get an urge and I no longer like the smell. The thought of smoking repels me. You are over the worse is I guess where I am going. It will get easier everyday from now on. Knowing you have gotten this far tells me you are going to do it. I am so sure of that I would bet the pick of my garden. I'm proud of you and I don't even know you :)
Gwwydion thank you so much for your kind words.I hope that when I have been a non smoker for a few months, I will be able to encourage others as you are doing. Thanks again,
Marigold.
I just wanted to say congratulations to all of you for your resolve to quit, and your willingness to share your feelings here - we're rooting for you!!!!!
I think it is important to focus on what you do have rather than what you don't have. For instance, you do have cleaner lungs; cleaner blood; better smelling breath, house and clothes; a better image of yourself; and more money to buy plants with! You also have both hands free and have gained time you used to use up tending the habit. Add me to your cheering section!
Way to go Marigold.. Sounds like you are doing great keep drinking that water wash all those ugly toxins out of your system. You have a right to celebrate. Thanks for letting us share in your celebration.
Going, Going ,Gone, you nasty habit,Great Job you. Keep us informed as it reconfirms in some of us the reason why we did the same. one day at a time. JACK
Congratulations. Each milestone is important and it DOES get easier after awhile. One day at a time.

Marigold,
I am so glad you decided to quit. I quit 4 years ago and am so happy I did. Now if I could only get my daughter to quit. Good luck and I know you will make it.
Quitting and staying that way are both really tough 'rows to hoe' so to speak. But I have a few suggestions.
*Do whatever is necessary to reinforce yourself.
*Feel free to become one of those "ex smokers" who look down on that nasty, ugly, awful habit. Others do! If it helps, do it.
*Look really hard at people who are smoking and see yourself, then decide if you really want to look like that again.
*Never say "I don't smoke" Say "I QUIT" Its a real ego booster!
*Make a list of all the people that you know that have quit. You're one of their gang now.
*Put your money away. If you were still smoking you wouldn't have it anyway so save it up and spend it on yourself. Don't pay any bills, you don't have that money, remember.
*Try counting up how many cigarettes that you have had in your life and how much it cost.
*Last of all, "Don't kid yourself".
The mind is a world of its own and sometimes we have to fool it into not believing in itself. So if you make it believe that it hates smoking, the rest of you will follow.
Good Luck.
PS now that I've told you this, here is the hardest part to admit, for me anyway. I quit for 10 years and started again. Now I am struggling with quitting again. The above *'s worked last time and will work this time. So I am writing this for all the world to see including myself as a reinforcement to both of us. (^;^)
I'm down to less than 15 a day from over 20. It's a start:)
