Great photos Iris! I love seeing all of the birds that I don't normally see. What part of the country are you in?
Hi all!
Thanks!! When I first looked at that same picture, I wondered why I took a picture of sticks? ~Then I realized that it was a picture of the wren, It took me a minute or two to find him too!!! LOL!
I'm wondering murmur, Does the photo get bigger for you when you click on it or does it stay the same size as seen??
Iris, it gets bigger - but I still couldn't spot the wren until you pointed him out!!!
Unique Treasures, Thanks! ~I'm in South Carolina ( Just moved here two months ago and love the birds and scenery here!)
Murmur, He is definately camoflauged pretty well and pretty hard to spot.
Look at those cute little feet!!!!!!
needle toes! lol!
Beautiful pics Iris!
Glad you made a visit to this forum! That's for sharing your lovely photos!
I thought that first one had such a pretty face. Love them all!
tigerlily, Me too!! And Your Welcome!! I need to check out some of the other posts on here soon as I get a chance, Seems to be some really nice photo's!
I love that little blue bird. I'd love to see one some day. Can I come play in your yard? (waybigo grin)
Janet
Unique Treasures, Sure, Comón down!
I'd like to go to Texas sometime and see them Road Runners you have over there!! ( You do have Road runners in Texas right?)
Iris, you're spoiling us with all these good pics !
Iris, nice photos. The one you said: " I think this is the 'Black Kite?", is actually a Black Vulture.
betterbloom, I'm hoping to get better photos when I don't have to feel rushed, I only get to take photo's in a small amount of time and I'm always kind of hurrying at it to get as many as I can in a short amount of time. I''m really hoping to get a close up of the kestral hoovering, I almost got him at one point but caught it too late, hopefully down the road I'll get him though.
Grasmussen, Thanks for the up-date. I think there are two different ones in this area, One being the Black Vulture and one being the Turkey Vulture, I know what the Turkey Vulture looks like, But I wasn't sure on the Black Vulture and thought the nickname for the Black Vulture was Black kite, Or are they two different birds?
The Lovebirds... Her alone.. hawk in flight.. Another view.. hawk..
These are all Red-shouldered Hawk (a different species to your Red-tailed Hawk in the first set of pics)
I think this is the 'Black Kite?"
As already mentioned, American Black Vulture
Belted King Fisher (?)...
Yep, Belted Kingfisher
Eastern Phoebe (?) ...
Yep
Another hawk...
Red-tailed, this time
woodthrush (?)
Hermit Thrush (Wood Thrush is in South America at this time of year!)
seagull..
Ring-billed Gull
American Kestral..
Yep; spellcheck: American Kestrel
thought the nickname for the Black Vulture was Black kite, Or are they two different birds?
They're two different birds, the Black Kite is an Old World species (Milvus migrans) found in southern Europe, Asia, and Africa; pic link: http://www.somersetbirds.uko2.co.uk/images/5607%20Black%20Kite.JPG
Resin
Resin, Thanks so much for the update! You really know your birds!
Iris, I know there are roadrunners here in Texas somewhere. I'm in Southeast Texas and have never seen one. I grew up in San Antonio and don't ever remember seeing one as a kid either.
Your photos are awesome. Thanks so much for sharing them with us.
Unique Treasures, I'm surprised to hear that you have never seen one, For some reason, I thought they were kind of plentifull in your area.
( Thanks again! Ănd Your Welcome!)
There's Roadrunners in most of Texas, but fairly thinly distributed.

Resin
Geeze, I guess there isn't that many at all, Thanks for the up-date!
I'm at the eastern edge of Texas, right next to Louisiana. The first link shown I was light pink, (one and below). The second link shown blank with none.
I would imagine that there were some in San Antonio when I was a child. I just never saw any that I can remember. I lived within the city (proper).
I lived within the city (proper).
That's why - they're not urban birds, though they will show up in outer suburbs. Best to drive slowly along open country lanes in semi-desert or grassland.
Resin
You're right Resin.
The only Roadrunner I can remember seeing was always being chased by Wily E Coyote!
LOL UT!!! Thats the one I saw too!!!
( Actually I did see them a couple times on the discovery channel and always thought it would be neat to get a picture of one) I knew they were a
desert/grassland bird, But figured you must have driven on the outskirts at one point or another and maybe see one, But as I can see, you haven't, Thought I'd take a stab at it just to see though.
Stunning picture, Iris!!!
Thanks Murmur!
