F-2 Flowers - Blue Picotee X Mini-bar Rose

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

The plants are finally flowering. The first one to open started out really pretty. It started at 6 am and didn't finish til the next day!!!! This was one of the varigated leaves plant. The bud was bent too! It also looked like it wanted to be Picoteed.

The finished product was definitly an EWWWWWWWWW. A mixture of both parent colors.

The second one to open was really nice. It definitly is a Picotee. No complaints about this one.

Great job X! How exciting to watch something bloom that you created yourself!

That is very cool to see your results! It is pretty. It is possible since the flower took all day to bloom that it is liable to show some color differences.

X - The 2 blooms are from different plants>right(?)...

looks like the anthers are displaying premature senescence...which means that they look like they are underdeveloped and won't produce viable pollen...sometimes this is a temporary metabolic phenomenon and/or genetic...

Interesting results...

I really like the blue one!

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

They are from two different plants. The blue one does not have the varigated leaves. The blue one is a mixture of both parents in the shape of the petals. It also has almost a white star which neither parents have.

The one with the varigated leaves is awsome! Does it have pollen?

You actually like that one? It's so muddy and garish! It did have some pollen but it wasn't fluffy. I don't understand why it took so long to open, over 24 hours! I actually took it out of the greenhouse and into the house late afternoon, because it was looking so promising and I didn't want to miss it.

I'm impatiently waiting for the other 4 plants to bloom. They all have buds on them. It will be interesting to see what else pops out of the one with the varagated leaves.

I DO like that one. It looks like a well done water-color where the pink is expertly blended into the blue.

I like muddy and garish! Viva la mud! :-)

I think though that you'll probably get better flowers than that. The first one looks like it's just getting it's feel for blooming.
