Hi there,
Can I plant sweet peas in containers on my front porch, so they will hang down instead of growing on a trellis?
I am envisioning a sea of hanging flowers.
Possible, or not?
Thanks, Christie
sweet peas
I don't see why you couldn't do this, the only thing is they're going to hang down really far, a lot of sweet peas get pretty tall if you're training them up a trellis, so if you let them hang down instead they might be dragging on the ground at the ends. But if that's the look you're going for then I don't see why you couldn't do it, vines will grow where gravity takes them unless you train them to do something else!
There are some sweet peas that have shorter vines that are perfect for hanging baskets and containers. Look for the variety "Cupid" or "Cupid Pink"--I think I saw some seed packets in the garden center last week.
Thank you ecrane and chris!! I bought waaaaay too many seeds. Many will sprout and then... Oh well, I'll make room!
Unless you want some of the ones I am not germinating in the incubator.
They are all heirloom or antiques, from Renee's farm.
Interested?
