Looking for a relatively low maintenance ground cover solution inlieu of a sod lawn.
The area is not that large, about 200 square feet.
I personally have never planted Dicondra and was wondering what the experience has been from others when it is used as a lawn substitute.
Need something in this area that is also Deer Tolerant ( ha ha ! )
Any Dicondra experience ?
D_D,
I had a beautiful large Dichondra lawn in Los Altos Hills a(about 50X100). Full sun. I was told it was a healthy exercise to mow it occasionally to stimulate root activity. We did mow it and it was lush. In LAH , in my yard, it took alot of water. We can grow it here in Phoenix. In my yard its growing as a volunteer ... surprisingly. I'm sure that if I planted plugs it would die. It just seems to have taken in a certain area. I encourage its spreading. I rarely turn the sprinklers on ... don't ask me how this phenom exists. A dichondra planting with very little watering in Phoenix? Like I say, if I intended it to grow it wouldn't.
Thanks for the feedback.
much appreciated.
this small area where the groundcover is to go is for a sculpture garden and I am trying to persuade the owners to go with gravel.
they're in internal conflict with one another. one wants green while the other wants NO to very little water use and No maintenance.
Some days I feel like part landscrape duhsigner, part marriage referee, and part magician.
oy.
IF you go with Dichondra...remember the dreaded Dichondra Flea Beetle....it can be a nightmare....
