Botanical crocuses, small but soo beautiful and generous!

Gent, Belgium(Zone 8a)

Wallaby, I really love that one you've posted 10.02 (12.39am), the one that came in a free mix. What a heavenly blue and subtle veining!
Do you happen to know its ID ?

Todd-Boland, beautiful combination of tones in Crocus sieberi 'Hubert Edelsten'! Very deep intense colours on those C. etruscus.

My crocuses are looking depressed, they are craving for a bit of sun (me too). We have this awful weather over here, with heavy showers, dark, dull gray days, nasty winds, with only once in a while a glimpse of a sun.

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

bonitin I haven't seen that one anywhere, it would be good to have a name but I can enjoy it just the same. It is a delightful contrast of stem and petals.

Things have came to a stop here with the cold too, but it's warmer now.

Prins Claus has an interesting goblet shape when open, some little bugs have come to drink!

It looks like they're having a romance in there! They start early!

I think I have found mine, Grand Maitre, the pic and description fit well. There is also a pic of C. tommasinianus rosea on both

They're a little over-coloured in most pics, as is usual, they don't do it any favours!

Thank you Wallaby,

The picture you took of the 'Grand Maitre' shows them better to their advantage.

I'll definitely order these next autumn.

The picture in the second link of the C.tommansinianus 'rosea', matches perfect with mine! Thanks!

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

I'm thinking of making a special purchase just to get Grand Maitre too, I suppose I could try to take seeds but they usually don't show themselves very well. It has been slow to bulk up where it is, some in other places have bulked very quickly.

very beautiful!
My brother has his lawn full of them together with the white daffodil 'Thalia'.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Lovely, lovely blooms!

Those little bugs may have come to drink from the Prins Claus... but you see what drinking can lead to, LOL!

Bonitin, I can just picture a lawn full of white crocus blooms...... I tend to go for the purple varieties, but I am going to have to re-think that now, maybe put in a little "drift" of white crocus somewhere special.

This is a delightful thread!

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

The three go well together, Pickwick, Jeanne d'Arc and a purple, I don't know which this is, they can be variable.

Pickwick is one of my favorites... those stripes are just irresistable!

They are near perfect in form,

First sunny day since long! The crocuses are obviously enjoying the sun bath (and so do I!).
I don't know the id of this one, bought them last autumn, but I like it very much.

The same, but closed! Not very sharp because my camera had difficulties to focus when the sun had gone.

Many visitors also!
It makes me realise how valuable the early bloomers, like crocuses, are to the wildlife in providing nectar.

Wonderful shot of the butterfly! What a delight for winter-sore eyes :)

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

I love the way the Peacock is soaking up the sun. The camera captured the hoverfly beautifully!

The sun shone a little here in between coluds, but the wind was chilly. I had to grab the camera and try once again for a shot of the lilac group, they were part open and all showing their orange centres. Still to download them.

Now I have to post those pics taken on the 15th!

The best ones I have got of them yet,

Sooo.. delicate and lovely!

C. fuscotinctus is now grouping well, they have been in for a few years and have been slow to increase. I like the brown feathering.

I would love to know which species that one is bonitin, it is very delicate.

I have some others behind the Phormium which were in a free mix which are mostly chrysanthus, and there always seems to be lots of yellows but these are so vibrant, the centres are rich butter yellow.

I cannot stop taking pictures of these beauties, and took advantage of a
brief moment of a half hearted sun.

Our posts had crossed each other!

I also would like to know the ID of that delicate one of yours!
Beautiful drawings on that C. fuscotinctus .

These ones are deep purple when closed.

Gorgeous pictures everyone! More of mine are coming out in the sunshine we've had. This is a new one for me this year - etruscus

Nice to see lots of bees and other insects out and about. I've seen some caterpillars but no butterflies yet! I don't know the name of this yellow one but I love it!

Take a look at C sieberi Firefly, the lilac with yellowish base on the first of your last posts,

http://www.srgc.org.uk/discus/messages/5012/8021.html?1112134289

I think my last one is C ancyrensis, there is a pic which matches it exactly with the brown streak in the middle of the petals but this one has the clone name of Golden Bunch, the other clones I found are all golden yellow.

Your last purple edged one is very desirable.........

Galanth, just saw yours, the yellow one looks like mine with the brownish marks. Very bright centre.

Love the colour of the other one, etruscus.

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

This is the middle of the yellow, it's so bright the camera has trouble with it.

We had no sun today, they promise it tomorrow afternoon!

Wallaby, it's a miracle to me how you find all these links with exactly the right info!!
It is indeed for sure the 'Crocus Sieberi Firefly'. Thanks a lot!

The last purple one of mine you mentioned I have no ID neither. Bought it many years ago, forgot even where, but it comes back loyally every year and spread itself.

When they are closed they look like this:
(sorry the picture is not very sharp, my camera has difficulties to focus them when the light is not ideal.)
